Nice shave. At use number 4 this blade is starting to shave not-as-close. Still pretty good, though. Imagine what it feels like after an additional 571 shaves on it.

Well, for a long time, I have suggested to sgrdddy that he is basically shaving with the width of the ribbon steel stock. The edge is probably a micron-sized saw. This should cut and be reasonably comfortable.

I hope he tries for a Guinness World Record with it. All of his shaves with it are documented, which is what Guinness likes to see.

Nobody will ever have the patience to break his record. Though, as a daily shaver, I could make up a lot of ground in 2025 if I treated each day as if it’s a day in BBS November :)

More like “Not even close to BBS November”. You and I like fresh sharp things way too much to ever put up with such an experiment!

Yeah, I agree. Sgr is fully aware of the concept of diminishing returns. I’m certain that blade has shaved pretty much the same for hundreds of shaves but he just wants to persevere. I think that it’s all about the numbers atm. I’ll ask him if anyone has suggested that he contact the Guinness org.

Dec 20, 2024 - Five Alarm Fire Friday

    • Brush: Grizzly Bay Fireball 26mm Declaration Grooming B15 Badger Knot
    • Razor: Gillette Red Tip Super Speed (1957)
    • Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Stainless (Green) [5]
    • Lather: Noble Otter - Firefighter - Soap
    • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Firefighter - Aftershave
    • Fragrance: Noble Otter - Monarch - Eau de Parfum

Skipping my usual fougère Friday for Firefighter. I’m not typically a fan of aquatics, but I make an exception for this incredible scent.

    December 20, 2024 Fougère Friday

    • Brush: Dogwood Handcrafts with Declaration Grooming B10
    • Blade Holder: Zomchí DE Razor
    • Blade: Wilkinson Sword Black (2)
    • Lather: Wholly Kaw - Fougère Bouquet - Soap
    • Toner: Thayers - Rose - Toner
    • Aftershave: Unilever - Brut - Aftershave

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

Second shave with this Zomchí DE razor. Today’s shave used a blade that I normally use, whereas yesterday’s used a blade supplied by Zomchí, and today’s shave was far superior. As I suspected, it’s mostly about the blade. The design of this razor is nice, but well within the mold of other DE razors. With DEs I think technique and the blade are the components that have the most influence on the shave.

Friday, December 20, 2024: Pine Tar Appreciation Day

    • Brush: Zenith/Stirling - 510SE-XL 31mm boar brush
    • Razor: Gillette - Super Speed Black Tip
    • Blade: Gillette - ‘The Spoiler’ Super Stainless (1)
    • Lather: Chiseled Face - Pine Tar
    • Post Shave: Stirling - Arkadia Aftershave splash
    • Post Shave: Ginger’s Garden - Unscented Aftershave balm (+ menthol)
    • Fragrance: Stirling - Arkadia EdT

Seeing u/Old_Hiker giving Pine Tar some love yesterday reminded me that I haven’t used this soap in a while. I decided to join him in his tarry appreciation today and was rewarded with a superlative shave.

This soap feels wonderful on the face. It has a softness that is delightful, and I quite enjoy the scent even though it is a pretty simple one. Sometimes less is more.

Super Speed did great, everything else clicked.

I’m grateful to have made it to the weekend. I don’t have to be back at work until January 2nd, so I’m looking forward to some relaxation and family time.

    Have a good one y’all.
