I cancelled a few years back after getting tired of the rate hikes. Now that Stranger Things is done I honestly have no idea what ongoing series or movie franchises they have at this point. Is there anything still in the zeitgeist now? I don’t hear about anything.

They’re focused on solely making content you can double screen, while watching, so all super slow repeating what’s happening frequently, nothingness. Personally, I judge a show on whether I reach for my phone or not. If I reach, I know it’s bad or at least mid. I won’t double screen. I stop watching. So It’s nice to be told there’s nothing on Netflix for me.

Oof. That is the type I hate the most, second only to reality TV. When I watch something, I sit down to focus on it. It’s not something on another screen or in the background.

I gave up on them when they kept hiking the price and removing features.

It’s literally why we have Netflix. It is constantly playing on the background as my wife works. I prefer music for work. Apple TV and Dropout for streaming entertainment.

I mostly watch stuff I already know, and mostly stuff that aired decades ago. I should just buy those old series on DVD, throw them on Jellyfin and cancel my subscription.

In addition to the shows already mentioned there’s all the Mike Flannigan shows which are great. Umbrella Academy is great. Monsters seasons by Ryan Murphy are also well done. There’s a lot of slop on there but also some gems if you know what to look for.

the reasons are: restricting how much people can use it, increasing the price constantly, also eliminating content from the library.

cancelling shows 1-2,3 seasons, only 8 episodes per season and extremely long hiatuses in between seasons,

      I hate exclusives.

I’d pay to watch your movies and shows, but you decided you don’t want that money. We could both be happy, but unless it’s the maximum money I could pay it’s not good enough.

And so I don’t give them money.

Like, I live Mike Flanagan’s work, but I guess I’m just not going to be able to see it since it only exists as Amazon and Netflix exclusives now. It’s a shame.

I still remember, in the early days, their ceo bragging about them “not having and never having ads”, and that you could share your password with friends as a feature.

Between going back on those features/promises, hiking prices way the fuck up, and making big budget slop movies before ai slop… I’ll be surprised if they don’t, ironically, go the way of blockbuster some day

They used to also be known is the company that saved cancelled shows. Now they’re known as the company that always cancels shows before they complete.

they probably realized the immense cost of having a streaming service around, so they try to squeeze whatever penny out of people. its why they kept trek as long as they did for paramount.

Any company who stops servicing their customer and starts nickel and diming them to death will ultimately fail. Short-term cash grabs keep the shareholders happy though.

This whole idea of “keeping the shareholders happy,” is also such bad business. The modern share holder being catered to is the day trader: buy in before we grow large, dump the stock when we peak before we lose all value.

The classic and traditional shareholder being “middle class America holding the stock of companies whose mission they believe in,” is long dead, if it were ever real.

Most stock in large companies is actually held by index funds. It’s your retirement they’re growing. Or realistically a bunch of old people’s who own a lot more than you or me

I go to the movies every week as a ritual, but it’s not a Netflix competitor to me?

…Honestly, our TV looks better. I can eat whatever I want. I can watch anything on Earth, including serial TV. It costs exponentially less. Theaters cant compete with that.

    But the theatres have:

    • A different form of curation, stuff I wouldn’t necessarily pick but am glad I went to see.

    • Decent, fun restaurant food (at our Movie Tavern).

    • The social “get out of the house” factor, friendly staff.

    • The “seen a popular movie” social factor.

    • In the case of IMAX, a truly unique viewing “form factor.”

    Netflix can’t offer that.

I view them as two completely different things.

      I’d add two things:

1: The popcorn at the theater is just different. Its extremely hard to recreate at home.

2: You are less likely distracted with your phone at the theater, wich improves the movie watching experiance dramatically.

2 shows i liked they had to end early, i give them that sandman was almost done, but with gaiman and what not. blood of zeus was suppose to have way more than what season 3 produced.
