21·2 days agoAnd just how exactly do you know that it’s B calling you? Do you know every prefix and number range that company can be calling from? Could it be a recruiters personal cell, or maybe a 3rd party VoIP system.
So now you don’t know what number it’s from. Maybe it’s a scam then, or maybe you’re working on other things, like being in the middle of class (since it said intern). Do you step out to take every call that may come in and waste your time since there’s no message being left?

21·2 days agoWhat’s so funny? That’s exactly how it works. I’ve been interviewing with multiple places and every single one has started with an email exchange to determine when would be a good time to call that both parties can be available. At that point I know if someone is calling me at that time, it’s most likely a legit call. Some will even be nice enough to state what number the call will likely be coming from.

49·2 days agoWhy hasn’t the actual document been leaked yet? At first I thought it was because it couldn’t be used if it was. But there’s literally a law ordering its release, so just dump it.

2·2 days agoBut that’s what the phrase is saying. If there isn’t pain, there isn’t gain. So by having pain, you can have gain.

75·2 days agoHonestly more people in high positions need a vibe check every now and then. Rich and powerful people become so insulated and surrounded by yes-men they think their ideas are infallible. As negative as social media is, one of the nice things is it levels the playing field a bit and gets that brutal feedback straight to them.
(Granted the truly narcissistic and arrogant will just brush it off, but for some, it’ll cause them to reflect)

10·2 days agoOne of the biggest fails in phone service was the ability to spoof caller ID. Spammers will use prefixes from known cell phone blocks or the same prefix you’re on to make it look more legitimate. The carriers should have also included source number checking too as they shouldn’t be getting an external call from a number that they own.

You just went the Microsoft route there: “their system is too old and doesn’t have TPM, they need a new system to stay secure”
Or the BF6 route “you need to have Secure Boot enabled to play our game”
This just creates more e-waste and doesn’t really solve the problem as their user base will happily follow them for much longer than you’d probably think.
There we go. That’s the angle I was looking for. I was curious what the grift was, but now this opens them up to getting energy subsidies and protections.
Assuming you don’t bring any food, the usual survival times: 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food. So a minimum 3 days… on the other hand, the time to turn into a skeleton would be much, much longer.
Edit: Since I wanted to do some math, it looks like skydiving is about 120mph in free fall and then 20mph with the parachute open. Let’s say you got scared/bored of free falling after an hour and open your chute, that would be 71 hours before dying. So you would have traveled 1,540 miles (assuming earth gravity, wind resistance, etc). Someone who hasn’t pulled their cord would catch up to you after 12 hours, so very much within the “alive” window.

1·4 days agoYou’re right that it’s not that, but the Germans probably have a word for it.
A lot won’t do that anymore or have an auto size fill that even without ice you’ll get less of a product. Except for self serve stations, in that case, pour away! Oh, though some of them have added rfid tags to the cups so you can only use their cup and for a limited time. Ain’t capitalism grand.
