    23.12.2024 - Ghost Town Monday

    • Brush: RazoRock 400 Noir SE 24 mm
    • Razor: RazoRock Cyber Medium
    • Blade: Rapira Platinum Lux
    • Lather: Chiseled Face Groomatorium - Ghost Town Barber
    • Post-Shave: HAGS - Barberwood AS toner; benecos 2in1 aftershave & face balm

-> 2 passes on both head and face (not the whole face though). Good shave overall.

Due to a trimming mistake a few days ago, I am back to wearing a moustache and goatee combo - the right name for mine in particular would most likely be the “anchor beard”, a subtype of the Van Dyke. Sometimes unintentional style changes are the best - I think I look really good with it and I even made my peace with the fact that it won’t be perfect 100%.

Anyway, this gave me a new playing field for the RR Cyber: parts of my face, especially my tricky jawline. In general, it seems after this second use that the Cyber is awesome for head shaving, but isn’t that well suited for contouring/detailing of facial hair. In fact I used my KAI kamisori with just a bit of water and leftover lather after the second pass to get some sharp lines - this won’t be necessary every time, but today I felt like it. Could also be interesting if my new old style forces me into using the kamivette more!

I saw GTB mentioned in a SOTD lately, so I felt like using mine again. Unfortunately, I kinda misremembered how much water Chiseled Face soaps can take - I often overhydrated the lather, to the point that I actually had to reload and start anew on my face. Well, better luck next time!

Three shifts left this year: starting tomorrow, two late shifts (I actually like working on Christmas, don’t worry) and one final early shift on the 27th. I really look forward to some R&R time before 2025, but let’s get some work done first!

I also find that the CF base does better when I start with a pretty dry brush. I usually get a solid lather when I remember this. :)

GTB++; it was my first artisan soap so I have a soft spot for it.

That’s good advice. I usually prefer loading with the brush when it’s drier, even though that makes some soap bases with lots of oils take longer to develop a solid lather. However, today I wasn’t quite paying attention to my usual process and started with a rather wet brush. A mistake that should be easily avoided next time 😉

GTB is a cool scent, it’s rather sweet at first but adds an interesting spicy note with the gunpowder. Definitely a great first choice for an artisan soap! IIRC, mine was Stirling’s Black Ice - not quite as palatable, but the great lather quality convinced me that this was the right path 😅
