But I hope you’re aware that you may be suffering from CPTSD related hyper vigilance. CPTSD because of all the (ongoing) trauma you face because you’re enby, hyper vigilance because you are now constantly aware of threats.

It’s a perfectly understandable reaction, but it can be very exhausting. Having to carry a knife to a supermarket or be prepared for an attacker while taking a shit, isn’t a fun way to live.

I hope you have been able to create a sanctuary where you can feel safe. I hope you’re also able to get the help you need coping with it. My CPTSD is caused by other things, but for example I find grounding exercises and keeping a gratitude journal useful. Doesn’t change the cause of my CPTSD, but has helped me cope.

So to be clear, I am absolutely not saying that the threats you face aren’t real, but suggesting you take care of yourself because you can’t be hyper vigilant all the time without it negatively impacting you.

Here’s the thing, by mocking said racist stereotypes, he’s still also perpetuating them and giving cover for genuine racists. Here’s an article about ironic racism, also known as hipster racism:

Of course, neither sexism or racism have been eradicated. Far from it. In fact the far right have used the irony defence to mainstream racist and fascist ideology:

For example, the reddit community /r/TheDonald, was originally an ironic sub. But a lot of people didn’t get the joke. So much so that before it was banned, it became the biggest pro-Trump community online, and helped get Trump elected.

Similarly, Ricky Gervais also makes similar claims to being ironic when he makes transphobic jokes, but doesn’t seem to mind his rise in popularity with the far right one bit.

TLDR: it is possible to understand Ali G is satirical, and still be critical of the character normalising racist stereotypes and giving genuine racists cover.

What you’re witnessing in the US, is in large part not religious fundamentalism. It is ethnic sectarianism.

It’s fundamentally no different to Northern Ireland or the Balkans. The Butcher of the Bosnia identified himself as Serbian Orthodox, and claimed to be defending Christian Serbia from Muslims. He had been a loyal communist for decades before that, and as far as I know wasn’t particularly religious at all.

The really obvious one is using of instead of instead of have. Would of. Should of. Could of. From would’ve, should’ve, could’ve. Non-native speakers will rarely if ever make that mistake.
