It felt like the right way to approach the topic. AI has become so pervasive, I’m not even sure I could search for it without simultaneously using AI.

Excelled point. I think there are some legitimate uses of AI. Especially in image processing for science related topics.
But for the most part, almost every common use is unethical. Whether it be the energy demands, (and its contributions to climate change), the theft of intellectual property, the spread of misinformation, and so much more. Overall, it’s a huge net negative on society.
I remember hearing about the lawyer one. IIRC chatGPT was citing laws that didn’t even exist. How do you not check what it wrote? You wouldn’t blindly accept predictive word typing with your phones keyboard and autocorrect. So why would you blindly trust a fancier autocorrect?
Exactly what I’m looking for!
I’d book a trip on a tall ship. I found one a while back called the Bark Europa. It’s one of the few ships that goes to Tristan da Cunha, the most remote civilization in the world.
Its already expensive ($10,000+) and even more expensive if you want to go to the arctic. Unfortunately, I have celiacs, so the only way I’d be able to do it, is if I paid a stupid amount of money.
KDE has two browser that they already maintain. Based on the QtWebEngine. I’d love to see more development on them.
I think you meant lag. But this is a good one. One of my favorite words. It seems to be used in technical settings a lot, especially for electricity. I read an article a while back that applied it to social situations I.e. social hysteresis. It applies to so many things its ridiculous.
Two of my favorite:
Why do people still think vaccines cause autism despite the overwhelming evidence against? Social hysteresis.
Why do people think inflation is out of control in the US despite the fact that its been less than 3% for over a year? Social hysteresis. (Also because people want deflation)
Yep, EO’s are still subjected to judicial reviews.
This ruling doesn’t let Biden write new laws. But, he could put out an EO and then use force to enforce it. He could put one out, that then gets overruled, then he could just claim that the justice department was wrong.
This is so fucking stupid
“Under Harris, the D.A.'s office obtained more than 1,900 convictions for marijuana offenses, including persons simultaneously convicted of marijuana offenses and more serious crimes.[73] The rate at which Harris’s office prosecuted marijuana crimes was higher than the rate under Hallinan, but the number of defendants sentenced to state prison for such offenses was substantially lower.[73] Prosecutions for low-level marijuana offenses were rare under Harris, and go her office had a policy of not pursuing jail time for marijuana possession offenses.”
From her Wikipedia page (the reference is pay walled and im not invested enough to figure it out).
Also, a lot of people just don’t have time. I don’t mean “they have a busy schedule and don’t want to reschedule”. I mean there is a significant preventative of the population who camper afford to take time off from work.
Many hourly employees don’t have vacation time. And they can’t afford to miss a single day of work. They may even be retaliated against (or at least think they will) for missing work.
America is fucked.
Also, because of the lack of time, they might not even be aware of what’s happening.
