I am writing this question because Musk did a Nazi salute, and after asking lemmy about it, and seeing the side by side video, and his seemingly mild response to people notixing it, I belive it was a Nazi salute.

So the “now what?” is in response to what seems like a tepid reaction from society.

Will Ameeica become even more unsafe for even more minorities?

Are people organizing or have they lost hope? should there be an organized boycott on Teslas or companies that spend money on twitter? Would it even matter?

Is this unstoppable and it actually makes more sense to flee?

Nazi. The word is Nazi. White Supremacist is sane-washed and clinical. Believe people when they tell you who they are, with words or actions.

The “tepid” reaction is because there’s zero surprise here. A giant swath of the maga base is made up of white supremacists, and I don’t think there’s even debate about that. Lots of people voted for Trump specifically because he said he’d do mass deportations, get rid of LGBTQ protections, etc. We’ve literally been screaming that people were voting for a bunch of Nazis. So now, on inauguration day, someone gets up and does a Nazi salute - what do you want us to say?

And as for “now what,” the best we can do is fight where we can and make sure the mid terms are different, though after this last election my hopes are low. People knew what they were voting for, and he didn’t win by cheating. It’s gross, but that’s where we are.

Did you think he wasn’t a white supremacist before then, when the n word became trending the day he bought Twitter, advertisers backed out after having their products next to Holocaust denial and hate speech, and literal neonazis are free to post hate slop but writing cisgender is a bannable offense?

Honestly everyone should have boycotted it the second he bought it and every other tweet was the n word spammed, or when you could no longer view replies without making an account.

Go right on ahead and achieve a peaceful revolution to abate the suffering of the masses at the hands of malicious powers. A great many are waiting.

I think killing Elon Musk isn’t going to solve anything but either way I don’t care about calling for violence against him. I only care about making the name Luigi and the game character dog whistles. Let’s not turn random people and the game character into the next Pepe.

Fascists coopting a meme to spread racism and overall bigotry is not at all the same as leftists using Luigi as a dog whistle to signal violence towards oppressors. Its like equating the far right and the far left. The far left want equality for all, and the far right want to fucking commit genocide. They are not equivocal at all.

In my whole adult life, on either side of the political spectrum, I haven’t seen any major figure in power in the US ever imply anything about wanting to commit genocide.

I second this question. It went from “we should do something about all the greedy billionaires” to “we should eliminate all the greedy billionaires” to “they’re all greedy” to now “let’s lump them and fascists and fascism together” when Luigi’s intent wasn’t actually noble in the first place.

I’m surprised nobody sees the irony in criticizing one such invocation with another.

Memes should be fine. Advocating justice is fine. But entertaining the concept of indiscriminate death based on a loose/flawed connection to the definition of murder or theft, and then complaining that what the government is doing isn’t protected by the same freedoms as what you dismiss as freedom of speech? Due process is a thing for a reason.

For starters, Luigi could have performed a lawsuit. He didn’t even try.

Being upset that a normal person didn’t try suing UHC is like blaming a dog for not using a crosswalk signal.

The general populace does not have the training, or access to the money and expertise to successfully sue a multi billion dollar pillar of the corrupt healthcare system. It certainly is less accessible than a bullet.

Except Luigi Mangione isn’t a dog (nor is he the general populace, who could have sued as well, as shown by the amount of lawsuits sent to entities like fast food giants), he’s a human being who in fact was born into a higher position of wealth than Brian Thompson and who, opposite to dog-like fashion, plotted a cross-country murder over a period of months when he would have made the same statement with a lawsuit, especially given his wealthy family origins.

Not that the inability to sue excuses murder; there are a few avenues people could have taken, and Brian Thompson did not make himself deserve murder in the first place, not least because the issue wouldn’t necessarily have even been his doing.

Some might. All billionaires are different. Brian Thompson himself is actually a good example of this, as he joined the company hoping to improve its relationship with people. It was current events that caused a small number of unfortunate circumstances which led to a guy who wasn’t insured with them in the first place to indiscriminately attack him.

And that’s Miss Bootlicker to you.

Yes, a billion is one followed by nine zeroes. Nothing in the number necessitates only theft can achieve it, especially in instances when someone’s living takes place in or deals with the public sector.

It should be noted the Mangiones were deeper in the wealth game than Thompson. Yet nobody ever hears anyone say they’re guilty of theft. Resorting to jabs like not being able to hear someone over having a boot in their mouth (I encourage getting one’s hearing checked if they hear a boot) in order to support someone from a rich family ending the life of someone of a lesser origin with similar intentions who was given the position second-hand, all ironically in the name of wealth, especially when a lawsuit would’ve done the trick, seems more like the inclination to blind support that Luigi’s critics are accused of.

I meant in tangible terms. How much time is a million seconds? How much time is a billion seconds? Or the difference between a millionaire and a billionaire is? Or the fact that you hide behind paperwork and morally grey laws doesn’t make you any less of a killer and if your leadership, direction, and decisions lead to the death of 1000s of your countryman you are a traitor and a mass murderer. Nobody cries when the mob boss gets whacked. Maybe his wife, and the toadies. Ya dig?

And the topic is so incredibly leading that the only reason you’d be on that page is if you’re looking for reasons to support an opinion you already had.

why you would even buy elmo shitbox, garbage assembly quality and QC in general.

Kinda early, I’d say. Get out of big tech services, protest, spread the awareness, find like-minded individuals, call and write your politicians, volunteer for voting campaigns (voter turnout during US elections was so shit it’s not even funny and out of touch dem party didn’t help). I’ve spent most of my life living in the actual dictatorship, and lemme tell ya, getting out and protesting without getting your limbs broken in police station and getting thrown into prison for 6-10 years after is a fucking luxury. So do it while you can do it.

While I have my doubts about the state of general american public (normie response outside of reddit/fediverse echo chambers was mostly ‘that’s our boy Elon, he’s quirky like that and didn’t mean it’) and levels of apathy in society I feel like it’s still salvageable.

No, current year politics says that ernestly using universal symbolism of white supremacists makes you a white supremacist.

In case you are being serious: He can have disdain for non-whites and disdain for the poor, but especially disdain for the poor non-whites while still believing in white supremacy. He sees employees as expenses and seeks a larger profit margin by unethical means.

No, you see, it’s like how the Southern slave owners loved black people. That must be why they owned so many of them. Because of their deep concern and appreciation. They gave them their own quarters and later their own restrooms and drinking fountains.
