Private healthcare is much more expensive, but also allows people to get their needs addressed faster and get somewhat better treatments in some edge cases, and even the more expensive private healthcare is often still relatively cheap.
Public healthcare is way more likely to have the most advanced medical technology and breakthroughs, though.
Recent vid of a girl going to public hospital in Kunming and comparing prices. You can choose public or private. If you pay cash, it’s about 10x more to go private. She went to a GP for ~70cents US (5rmb). A specialist costs ~$1.50.
She mentioned she had an MRI before which costs 500rmb ~ $70US. An overnight stay at public hospital costs about the same. She said a friend had a 7 night stay in public hospital due to brain issue and paid 10000rmb ~$1400USD.
She has health insurance provided by her employer. That covers the bigger procedures for her.
