I’m also uninstalling X4, because…it’s a great game and brimming with life. Too much life.
My choice about space sandbox is and will ever be Elite Dangerous, mostly because most of the dame it’s just you and your ship, alone, in the middle of effin’ nowhere.
X4 feels too inhabitated.
Again, great game.
Thank you for coming to my (T)ED talk

@innkeeper@gamerstavern.online It’s a rather different type of game, but I wonder how you might feel about Empyrion. There are NPCs and such, but there is definitely a whole lot less going on and a whole lot more just you out there doing whatever. (It has more focus on combat and a whole lot of building of stuff though, so that may or may not be your thing.)
@nazokiyoubinbou@urusai.social I think I already own the game somewhere, I just didn’t fire it up yet 😅
@innkeeper@gamerstavern.online Oh yeah, we may have discussed it before.
I swear I have a memory. I just, uh, forgot where I put it.
Hey, if you ever want to multiplayer with it I’d be happy to show you the ropes!
@nazokiyoubinbou@urusai.social absolutely! And if you may be interested, we created a new Matrix channel dedicated to space games (#space-games:space.gamerstavern.online), bridged with Discord too :)
We merged the old No Man’s Sky, Elite Dangerous and Void Crew channels into a category channel, seeing that we at TGT love playing different space games (plus, Jump Ship beta 👀 )
@innkeeper@gamerstavern.online I’ll give it a look, but I’m bad about actually initiating conversations in new places. (I know that sounds weird in online stuff…)
@nazokiyoubinbou@urusai.social I completely understand that and I’m sorry if my message might have come out too pressuring :)
I will set a bookmark on this thread and ping you in case I’d fire up the game or had any questions!
Thank you and again, I’m sorry
@innkeeper@gamerstavern.online Man I really need to give Elite Dangerous a go. I’be been a Star Citizen player for a long time, but there is something really appealing about Elite. I like how the ships feel heavier, the fuel-scooping mechanic is cool. and the way they do Quantum Travel is soooo much better than SC.
I can’t play X4, but it’s because it’s extremely unfriendly to controllers. I already learned Space Engineers hateful controls, i don’t have the energy to learn X4s too.
Elite on the other hand has beautiful controls, and it feels great to play. Free flying thru a mail slot at high speeds and then doing a U to a full stop is fun as hell.
Also, the last Elite update adds the ability for players to expand the bubble. That’s exciting.
@TachyonTele@lemm.ee oof, yeah you reminded me when I tried using a controller to play X4.
Absolute nightmare. Even the HOTAS require a lot of remapping, meh.
That’s crazy. And really unfortunate. It seems like it’s a great game otherwise.
So I should give X4 another shot?
@ivanafterall@lemmy.world well, I can’t see why not. I believe a new update will come out soon and it will all be about diplomacy :)
I tried it one time years ago, found it too daunting, and bounced off. But I never knew “brimming with too much life” was even a possible complaint about the game. I worried it’d be too much work for no payoff/a lifeless, empty map. Now I’m intrigued.
@ivanafterall@lemmy.world well, it’s quite packed with NPCs compared to Elite Dangerous. Even when directly flying your ship you’re bound to encounter a plethora or other ships.
I’m more of a lone space wanderer, and that’s why I love getting outside the bubble in Elite Dangerous. There’s absolutely no one else there
@innkeeper@gamerstavern.online
I’ve been pondering reinstalling X4 to see how it feels now that I’ve got a proper HOTAS and head-tracking setup. Just not looking forward to refamiliarizing myself on the controls and interfaces.#X4 #EliteDangerous #Gaming #Videogames #LinuxGaming #ED
