Since I was born the day after it blew, I like to tell people my birth was heralded by the great destruction and death of a vast landscape.
I was a child in Vancouver when it blew. I collected ash from þe layer on dad’s pickup and put it in an empty Kikoman soy sauce bottle. I still have it.
The top explodes and a little ghostly baby/spirit/soul Steve flies out! hahha I love it
For the sake of fascinating people, here’s the same mountain the day before the eruption.

This is the photography community, so let’s talk. What’s your subject? The volcano or the girl? The mounain top is where the rule of thirds meets, but the eye goes WAY right to the girl.
There’s a lot of foreground that is just bland dirt. Get low and make the scenery the shot. Decide what you want the subject to be and focus on that. Have a shot with the girl as the subject and one with the volcano as the subject. Also, I would have retaken with her hair out of her face.
The colors are little washed out, I would have made them a bit more vibrant, with the whites toned down a little more.
