It’s been a running joke since pretty much my 1st post in this comm, that somebody will find a way to explain how my comic post is political. Despite me making it pretty obvious in the sidebar that I’m referring to a very specific flavor of politics.

I’ve been rolling with them, since I find them more eye-rolling amusing than annoying. However it seems that others might be getting annoyed with them, which I can understand.

IF YOU ARE A PART OF THIS COMMUNITY, chime in with your opinion here. Should we continue to allow free for all comments, or subject them to the same restrictions on (particular) politics as the posts?

If you are already against the point of this community for whatever reason, please refrain from joining in the discussion.

No politics, even in comments. That’s the flair of this community.
There are other “normal” communities for all comics.

I would honestly just let comments be. Apply usual rules (ban hate speech, either place on political manifold), but if someone is trying very hard to find politics is automation of factorio vs stardew valley (that was the lost post i saw), then just let them do it. I am personally not pro heavy moderation. But in any case, if you feel it is just 1 specific person, call them out once, and if they still keep that up, maybe consider just banning/timing them out or something.

I think that theoretically political comments should not be allowed, but I also think that this may make for WAY too moderation.

Honestly, I think the best path is to remind people to treat political comments like trolls, just downvote, ignore, and move on. I don’t want to see burnt-out mods just because we are trying to make a community with a particlar focus. For me it enough that the post themselves fit the theme.

I think comments should have a milder version of the rules of posts.

If you let politics run wild in the comments, the target audience (people who want a break from politics) will start avoiding them, and that’s really bad. And yet people sometimes can’t help but point out some political aspect of the comic; specially if leans towards this, like that comic about the parents betting on the child’s gender.

I also think the sidebar needs something addressing more explicitly that “ackshyually everything is politics lol lmao” discourse, so you can get a bit rougher with posters bringing it up. I think it’s important to do so; while it’s technically true (yup, there’s politics everywhere, even in knitting), the main reason people would bring it up in a comm like this would be to convey “I feel entitled to shit your community with content that contradicts its goals and reason to be”. It’s a yellow flag for a potential troublemaker, you know?

Anyone prick enough can point out how a comic can be political. And personally, I’d find pricks to be uncivil when a community isn’t meant for this type of thing.

I vote against allowing political comments.

If you want to yak about politics, literally every other community on Lemmy would be glad to hear about it I’m sure.

This should be a safe space for a break from all that.

I agree. It’s nice to have a spot where it’s not as likely to devolve into snarky comments about the state of the world.

This this this this. I am dealing with the real world every day. I hear about and try to do something about the horrors. But joy is important too for resisting, and it’s hard to have that when you check on online and there is snark everywhere and shoving the horrors into every possible discussion. I probably could just get offline, but on the other hand I want to help the Fediverse grow so I keep coming back. Even taking my approach of only looking at communities I subscribe to… I had to filter out gaming@lemmy.world because people would politic in every conversation. I appreciate a safe space from the horrors.

Not posted or commented yet but I’d hope for a political safe zone.

I love politics but understand others would love a spot they can decompress without random spurts of “Welcome home from your 12 hour shift, they killed a kid while you were gone”

I like the people trying to make the comics seem political though and have been tempted to start going out of my way to find the most tacit connection I can

    Edit: comics, not comments

I mean, everything we do as humans living in a society is political, if you go looking for it in these comics, more often than not you will find it. I have restrained myself from comenting anything like that here if I see the angle, it’s just not the place.

I apreciate a comics comm that the fucking bots and trolls have not yet messed with, lets keep it nice. ;)

the whole stick is that this place avoids sad, shitty reality and instead it’s a bit of funny stuff right?

i think if you dont want it infested with “non-political” as in “no women in games” then the running joke is kinda important?

Just to clarify, ‘no women in games’ would not only be the sort of politics we’re explicitly not allowing, but would also be flat out misogynistic.

I dont think political comments should be allowed, feels like it goes against the spirit of the sub. That being said, you have to recognise the state of the US right now, where i can only assume most subs are. A lot of people browse by all and dont realise what sub theyre in. What im getting at is i dont think you should outright ban people for their comments, even on like a 3 strike system. Its just too easy to make a political comment.

Instead, if lemmy allows it, for their first warning just delete the comment. For their second and further, issue them either temporary bans(a day or two) or better yet just mute them. With the amount of time eacalating based on number of infractions.

That being said, i personally find the running joke to be very humourous. I dont think theres actually much confusion on whether a lot of these posts are “political”, i think people are just having fun with teasing about how in some ways everything has become political.

Edit: having just reread the post, no clue if im part of the community. I only browse all so theres no point in me subbing to stuff. Can i be an honorary community member?

We have plenty of spaces for talking about current events. Might as well reserve this one for not doing that.
