      Largely, they do.

I mean, you can check my post history if you want - I absolutely excoriate self-proclaimed leftists who refuse to vote when the choices are “Open fascist” vs. “Literally anyone except a fascist” - but most leftists are out there casting strategic votes in the US.

The issue is that this country is mired in right-wing bullshit, and politics are largely determined by community norms. I lived in rural areas growing up - when I check old stomping grounds on the electoral map and it tells me shit like “Voted 97% Republican”, it’s like… yeah, that fucking tracks.

I don’t know the solution, but I do know that most leftists are not the problem.

        To clarify.

I am not saying that good people aren’t voting.

I am saying that there’s a myth out there that there’s a vast number of Left voters who are staying home because they don’t like the Dems or the GOP.

I don’t know if it’s a myth so much as a good brainwashing. Many leftist policies when polled alone garner significant majority support. Unfortunately, a large segment of our society has fallen into hatred through identity politics, and their entire worldview is now aligned with the people (see right-wing billionaires) who fund and push that divisive narrative to achieve their own goals of power and wealth consolidation.

There are many Trump supporters who would gladly support a national health service if Republicans wanted one, but they could never get on board with Democrats to make that happen, because they exist in a media ecosystem that has for years portrayed Democrats literally as an enemy to be destroyed.

I mean, I’m pretty sure that the meme is saying that leftists need to shatter the illusion that liberalism is leftism to push forward a new paradigm in American politics, not saying that we already have a majority and just need to flex our muscle.

not seeing an “/s” here, so not entirely sure if you’re suggesting the current environment is the fault of leftists not ensuring democrats win every single election, and not the system that continues to increase oppression year after year regardless of the fact. for decades. even when democrats have all the power. things STILL move in the fascist direction.

i think what the meme is saying, is to focus less on the false ultimatum, and more on changing the system in a way that’s literally impossible within the two party system, through diverse cooperative efforts that support each other for a bottom-to-top growth in the ability to affect how the system actually works.

weirdly, every time democrats get into power, they don’t undo any of the stuff the heritage foundation and types are pushing to fully remove the power of the public over their corpo overlords.

it’s like blaming the poor for not “spending their money better” in a system ruled by monopolies, and institutional violence that puts all regulation and accountability towards the poor, and none to the rich. also “voting with your dollar” vs literal multi multi billionaires who could easily plan around your vacancy, or otherwise destroy your other avenues for meeting your needs.

maybe the issue isn’t in where you are voting, but when your choices are the fascists and the controlled opposition, who’s actions entirely support the fascists they are supposed to be fighting against.

We gotta bust down that illusion. It’s getting… dicey, playing “Fascists vs. Conservatives” every fucking election cycle.
