Love the pictures! Give us more pictures of Sitka. I have never been able to picture it from descriptions in books.@jancampbellcady@mastodon.scot No problem, will do! That’s pretty much what my account is all about. That and weather. 😆
@SilverSalmonAK@alaskan.social it rained lastnight?
@LordsofHardwired@med-mastodon.com This is from a few years ago.
Sitka (or a fictionalised version of it) is also the setting of Michael Chabon’s alternate-history noir novel “The Yiddish Policeman’s Union”. There it is the capital of a Yiddish-speaking Jewish state modelled on a Ukrainian shtetl.
@AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space I’ve read it. The author had a great imagination! Lol
How much does his Sitka resemble the actual one and how much does it diverge?
@AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space Well, both towns are named Sitka. Honestly, I laughed on the 3rd or so page when he mentions “Sitka’World’s Fair.” The real Sitka is vibrant but small: about 9,000, give or take. During the 6 months without tourists we are definitely quiet. Lots of art and music, but it’s a small town vibe.
