Fucking hell that’s too high. They’ve been nothing but an excellent neighbor to us and they want to remain sovereign. This is just a demand for a forever war against old friends that will also result in us actually being attacked on our own soil for once. Because yeah, they know where our bases are and if we’re invading they’re going to use their modern military.
In fact, I’m angry at the term annex here. Annex is a word that feels neutral and like it could be bloodless, the word in question is invade or go to war with. Going to war with Canada would result in attacks on our cities. Civilians will die on both sides for no fucking gain. Billions of dollars in infrastructure will be wiped out for good reason and that’s all assuming that nato stays neutral, which they’ve made pretty clear isn’t the case. We need to start talking here with the people in our lives about how that’s what “annexing” canada looks like, and make damn sure that we get into the 90+% range vociferously opposing this bullshit.
I think even many Canadians don’t think it through. If we survive the initial invasion we will be deprived of education, healthcare, freedom of movement, democratic representation, autonomy, resources like water and electricity, employment and money. Some of us would be pulled out of our homes and disappeared or killed, particularly if we’re vocal critics of the USA. We would be closely watched and guarded and met with violence at the first sign of resistance or noncompliance. Our children would be indoctrinated in school. Our scientific institutions would be shut down. Our friends and family, particularly anyone who is not a straight white cis Christian conservative, will be in constant danger. It won’t be just an administrative handover that allows Canadians to get on with their lives. It will be brutal and punitive.
I want Canada, Denmark, or almost anyone else to annex the US west coast.
Maybe Canada could trade Alberta with the US in exchange for Oregon, Washington, and California.
25 pc of the president’s base is evangelical. They want chaos, war, misery, to hasten the second coming (of angry vengeful jesus, none of that weak ass new testament bullshit,) where the faithful, them, get brought to heaven and the world drowns in lakes of blood and fire.
These people believe in nothing to advance the common good, the common good to them is pain, strife, and the end of the world.
Naturally they see the president and his puppet master in Israel making US and UK swells dance waving around tapes of them fucking children with epstein as a gift from god to bring on this rapture.
We’re in the justifying war goal against Canada part of the event chain
That is the amount of people we will have to disenfranchise when this is over. Probably just limit their rights to vote or enter in to a contract. Make sure they have no authority over anyone, especially a minor. The enemy of peace and stability has exposed themselves in the US and we have to render them harmless.
That’s the problem with democracy. If you truly believe in democracy, then everyone’s voices need to be heard.
Punishment won’t work. We need to systematically change education to make any lasting difference.
This is questionable. Partially because the knuckle draggers who support trump largely wouldn’t know what the word annex means.

That sounds lovely and like something I have argued for for my entire life and will continue to argue for. It’s currently unclear if the US will splinter, but I dream of a day when high speed rail can take someone from Vancouver to Mexico City
How about Canada Annexes the PNW and New England and the US annexes Alberta.
The upper midwest and ontario would be a good new country. Chicago to minnesota to michigan, all of michigan, huron, and superior.
It would have been a great country had it gone that way, and should Canada destabilize like the US maybe, but they’ve been pretty clear that they like being a whole country, and Ontario didn’t join us in the 18th century, and they’re unlikely to join up with some of us in the 21st. Also they definitely wouldn’t want Indiana. That said the upper Midwest (Ohio to Minnesota, maybe even transappalacian Pennsylvania) would make for a pretty good country to be a close ally of canada
I am 100 percent in agreement in leaving out Indiana. I would leave out ohio too, or just the northern third of illinois, indiana, ohio, and pennsylvania.
Because the south of those states are more confederate in nature. Idk pennslyvania though most is more eastern seaboard, the ne corridor cpuld be a couple countries, new england then ny to dc.

Only 66% were against, so you can safely assume that other 34% all really think we should but some of them just were smart enough not to say it out loud.

I was always kinda hopin’ Canada would annex us instead.
I’ve traveled to a few states and I think some of them would make fantastic provinces. Some of them have people very kind and friendly, and I like to think that fits well with Canadians.
Set it up! If you can get orange daddy to sign off on it (convince him it’ll sway the vote to be more red with fewer blue in there) we’ll be set!

So many US sources say shit like “only 17 %” as if this is a low value. It’s infuriating
I think the wording is meant to contrast how few Americans actually want it, vs, how much Trump wants it, who, as president, should, in theory as an elected figure, represent the majority opinion of the people. So, they are calling attention to the fact that it’s a low number, but for a different reason than your reading.
Obviously that is part of what they are saying, they just haven’t taken the care to exclude the “we are proud of the US since only 1/5 of us want to take Canada”. In a situation like this, you’d expect more care. And this isn’t a slight one off, it’s very common type of comment for commentary about the US, particularly domestically.
All they had to do was swap these paragraphs and it would help the implication:

U.S. President Donald Trump has been aggressively pursuing an expansionist agenda during his second term.
Far better to be explicit and state what you mean:“17 per cent of respondents said they want Canada to be a U.S. territory or state, indicating low domestic popularity”. But even then, for an international audience that is a horrifyingly large amount of domestic support that if aligned with similar issues tends to include roughly 1/10 Democrats so any sort of “its just MAGA” is lies to help feel less bad about countryman.
Seriously, what are you doing defending this sort of indifference to clarity, and collateral insults, when discussing a head of state and country this egregious?
And saying 66% don’t want the USA to annex Canada as if that’s in any way a reassuringly low number.
