It’s an issue of relevance. I know he climbed on top and walked with some other people off to the left and was never seen again. That’s irrelevant to the subject though. If he had just complied he would have never been there to create that iconic image. He certainly wouldn’t have climbed on top. We also know that while he may have vanished from history that street would later be covered in the bodies of others who were crushed by tanks and shot by their own nation.

It’s not ignorance. It’s taking in the whole situation.

Care to tell me how you know the streets were covered in bodies? I’ve never seen that. I’m being genuine

I’ve only ever seen the picture of this dude in front of the tank and then years later the video of him not getting run over. I felt tricked when I saw it.

I’m very aware there is censorship and propaganda at play but I know the US is playing that game in addition to China so I really don’t know what level of government force was used there.

The tank picture and the way it’s framed over here have me leaning towards the idea that there is no real evidence of a massacre. Maybe that’s China censorship or maybe it didn’t happen but if you got something I can look at and know more i’d appreciate you sharing it. 🙂

That being said without something like that the comparison feels unfair since we don’t know if tank man received any repercussions for not complying. 🤷 We’re as ice is just murdering civilians in the street in the USA.

Edit: to be clear I’ve searched around a lot but it’s so unclear to me. But maybe I missed something super important

Sorry but to continue I need to do a vibes check. How many people do you think were killed at the 1989 Tiananmen Square event?

Also, and this is just curiosity, were you alive at the time and able to watch the reports unfold in real time?

I sincerely don’t know if it’s a lot of people or none. Seems like both sides are lying and I can’t find anything concrete enough to be sure either way.

No I wasn’t I’m 30 (born in 1995). My awareness of this event for most of my life was just the picture of the guy in front of the tank. Once I saw the video of what happens next I spent a day searching for videos of violence or anything more concrete but whether it’s through censorship, my incompetence, or it not existing : I couldn’t find it🤷

That’s why I’m asking you. I want to know if I missed something because I want to be on the right side of this. I was raised an evangelical far right Republican whose family votes for trump and now I’m an atheist and a socialist. All that to say I do try to change my mind when it makes sense.

                How’s my vibe dude?
