Fuck yeah. Supporting Sweden’s sovereign aviation program is the next best thing we can do to still having our own. Killing the avro looks once again like the huge kowtow that it was to US imperialism. Were lucky some democratic nations have maintained their own independent arms industries from NATO and we need to start to develop our own, yesterday

I’d love to see how history were to unfold had we never cancelled the avro Arrow.

I mean I get that the cold war was changing and jet interceptors were about to become obsolete, but still. Something like 15000 people lost their jobs overnight and how many of them went south looking for work?

So i clicked the link inside to see what we want that apparently no one can offer today with an existing platform.

the military is concerned that the plane, under its current design and configuration, doesn’t have 360-degree radar coverage. There are also concerns about the range and frequency of the radar.

Saab has proposed modifications, putting additional radar sets in the nose and tail.

There are also concerns about the number of crew stations and connectivity equipment to plug the plane into the NORAD network, which would limit the GlobalEye’s ability to offer a “control” function during operations that involve a series of military assets.

The military is also seeking a radar plane that can be refuelled in flight to cover the vast expanses of the Arctic, a feature that is not currently included on the GlobalEye.

Aside from in flight refueling which could be unique to our location and large air space, its interesting we want stuff no one has, but it all sounds like good things.
