You get retakes??
Back in university, I could retake any exam up to two times for a total of three time per exam. In some very rare cases, the professor could pull some strings and let you pass anyway (don’t ask me how I know that). But yea, usually we did.
In SLT school right now, I fortunately didn’t have to retake any exams, but if I had to, I could also retake it. Not sure how often though. Same goes for the final state exams in a year - we can retake those at least once too.

This should be normal and encouraged in education. Schools at every level should have students display mastery of the material before moving on to the next topic. Taking an exam once and performing poorly indicates the student didn’t understand the material and should continue studying and practicing until they can demonstrate they have mastered the concepts.
Failing an exam and then moving on to the next item in thecurriculum is a disservice to the student, the teacher, and to the entire goal of education.
Yes and no. Exams are just snapshots and do not properly represent the knowledge a student has when taking the exam imo.
A student could have a blackout or suffer from anxiety and thus might not perform adequately and fail as a result despite knowing what’s being tested.
Grading performance is a whole other issue in and of itself and I don’t think it’s a good way to test someone’s knowledge on a topic; unfortunately, most schools, universities etc. are very archaic and don’t go with the times, so they’re stuck in decade-old thinking that’s been proven to not be effective.
But if I have to choose between being able to retake an exam and just outright failing it, I’m definitely in favour of retakes. I would even go one step further and let people retake exams as often as they need to (within reason). Limiting it to three times is very arbitrary, for example, and might just add more stress to an already stressful exam situation.
I was on the verge of failing my Bachelor’s degree, despite already having written my thesis and getting a good grade, just because I didn’t get micro- and macro-economics and had to pass both on my third tries. Imagine if I were just given proper time to prepare without needing to stress about passing in an arbitrary amount of tries.

Iranian school system is a lot less than accomodating. Yeah you can retake the university entrance exams after a year, but they’re a nightmare. 5hr exam, 1min per multiple choice question. Need the bathroom? You can go but you lose time.
I don’t know what this would be called in English, but the questions, if answered incorrectly could lower your score by the equivelant of 1/3rd of a correct answer. Was better to leave it blank than make a mistake. Luckily I moved before I turned 18. If I had stayed until after I’d have to do 2 years of military service, and take the entrance exam.
I did one year of highschool in Canada and didn’t really understand that I could ask for accomodations. Actually, I didn’t know dropping courses was an option. In Iran an individual question from Islamic studies had twice the weight of a question in biology. This particular exam was for biology related fields, medicine, pharmacology, dentistry etc…
University in Canada gave me accomodations like being able to take a 10minute break, use a volunteer’s notes. Wasn’t really enough for me. No exam retaking that I can remember. Delaying them cause of sickness or urgent situation, yes.

Decades. Now I have back pain and planning meetings at work. But at least I’m not so old I can’t still play from soft games!
As long as you still have enough time to play them, that doesn’t sound too bad. Depending on the back pain, I guess. Office job, I take it?
I’m not even that old! I just ruined my memory with years of substance abuse during that timeframe!
I have passed every class up to the last one I did where I failed miserably on the final testing and need to retake the class
My gaming journey stared in uni, using the high end laptop of a friend who actually paid attention in the slog of a class I used to game in. XD I’m so grateful for that computer, that also made it possible for me to pass some other classes while I had hardware issues. Never had to retake a class or exam, fortunately!
For real though, I got my son to pay attention in school by pointing out how it’s like unlocking a tech tree in a game. It stuck long enough to become a habit, and that’s all that matters.
