China’s president will attend the BRICS summit at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in New Delhi on Saturday to attend the 18th BRICS Summit, following his participation in a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, just over a week earlier.

Xi was invited to the BRICS summit by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the two leaders are scheduled to meet during the event.
The Chinese president is accompanied by Wang Yi, China’s foreign minister and a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, and Cai Qi, director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and also a member of the Political Bureau.
The BRICS summit follows an SCO meeting that also focused on strengthening cooperation and solidarity across the Global South.

At the recent SCO summit in Bishkek, Xi called for greater support for development in the Global South, describing the SCO and BRICS as key pillars for advancing socioeconomic development and strengthening the representation of developing countries internationally.
Xi said the SCO was “rooted in the Global South, its heart beats with the Global South and it is an important pillar of South-South cooperation.”
He also called for stronger cooperation in established areas such as trade, investment, energy and connectivity, as well as emerging fields including the digital economy, green technologies and artificial intelligence.
China also highlighted the progress of its Global Development Initiative, which marks its fifth anniversary this year. Over the past five years, the initiative has financed more than 1,800 social welfare projects and trained more than 200,000 professionals in developing countries.
