Iran reiterated on Sunday that it is not holding negotiations with the United States and will not resume them while Washington continues to violate the June memorandum of understanding, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi told reporters.

Araghchi acknowledged, however, that intermediaries continue to seek new pathways for negotiations.

The foreign minister also addressed final-phase discussions with Oman to establish an alternative maritime route, stressing that the agreement between Tehran and Muscat would not by itself reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He clarified that the strait’s reopening is subject to the fulfillment of specific requirements, with specialists currently mapping new maritime routes that Oman deal will later codify.

On Saturday, Supreme National Security Council secretary Mohamad Baqer Zolgadr laid out six U.S. obligations Tehran demands before reopening Hormuz. These include ending the naval blockade, lifting sanctions, releasing blocked Iranian assets, and paying war reparations. Zolgadr also demanded an end to threats, cessation of military operations against Iran and its regional allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, and Iraq, and withdrawal of U.S. forces deployed near the Islamic Republic.

Iran announced a fresh closure of the Strait of Hormuz in mid-July, after cross-attacks with Washington, disrupting a waterway that before the war handled 20% of global crude. The U.S. reimposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports and vessels, which halted negotiations under the peace memorandum signed June 17.
