Damn. People are getting killed over what they thought was a $2/lb button mushroom? I can see making the effort to hunt and properly identify for a $34/lb gourmet. But a bog standard cremini? Madness.

You can’t cultivate morels or chanterelles. I don’t think you can cultivate porcini? I don’t think there are deadly look alikes for those varieties but folks really need to consult experts if they’re gonna dabble in mushroom hunting.

I think people get into trouble hunting for psychedelics since 1) many of the experts (like at mushroom hunting clubs) won’t help with anything illegal and 2) many of the fun mushrooms are little brown mushrooms which are pretty difficult to identify correctly.

TLDR: If you’re looking to make risotto, you can probably learn enough to do it safely. If you’re looking to expand your mind, just buy spores from a reputable source and grow.

The mayor and the governor say things that sound like they are outrages by ICE but I guess they can’t or won’t get the police to side with the law abiding residents who pay their checks.

More than one thing can be true. The DNC could have prevented our current mess by actually running primaries, not abandoning their base, not trying to court republicans and the millions of other things they do to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Progressive voters could have prevented this current mess by actually fucking voting for the tepid weak sauce DNC candidates once it was clear that we’re only getting that or literal Nazis in that election cycle. There’s plenty of blame to go around and a tragic shortage of mirrors.

I’ve seen some mention of prepubescent kids in the file dump. IDK if any of it has been substantiated but people willing to abduct 13 year olds are probably OK with abducting 10 year olds if that’s what they or their friends are into.

Of course, minors can’t consent but there are a lot of accusations of brutal violence, coercion and murder, in addition to the sexual assault. There is a lot of truly repulsive and vile shit in the files and we ought to have a justice system that brings it all to light and punishes anyone who committed crimes. In light of all of that, handwringing over whether it’s misleading to call a 13 year old rape victim a child is some weak sauce. Try hitting on a 13 year old in front of their parents and see how the “if there’s grass on the field” defense plays out.

It’s not incorrect language, but it is a deliberate choice to use language that minimizes the offense. They could describe the victims as children , teens, minors, girls, etc. They are deliberately saying “underage woman” instead of “15 (or 13) year old girl” because their editors will pull it for being too inflammatory, sensational or unprofessional (as if that is a regular concern in the modern press).

A similar thing happens when the police kill someone. All of a sudden all of the rules about using active voice for good writing go out the window and it’s “man dies in police involved shooting” rather than “Police shot man.” People who study journalism and writing in school and are full time career writers and journalists absolutely think about word choice so I have a hard time believing that this is accidental.

I thought that the LAPD wasn’t supposed to be assisting ICE? All these LAPD assholes need to be fired. And the ICE agents need to be fired, out of a canon, into the sun.

I’m very lucky to have my own house. The number of spam calls I get from randos trying to buy houses is staggering. Some are obviously from call centers. I don’t understand how it makes financial sense to pay people to cold call every fucking homeowner in the US constantly in the hopes that they catch someone looking to sell quickly (and cheaply?). WTF is their endgame?

I kinda want to get everyone on board with refusing to sell single family houses to anyone who isn’t going to live there as their primary residence. Back in the not so old days, people would refuse to sell to “undesirables” because they didn’t want to tank property values, which would also carry significant reputational harm. We need to use that energy for good.

In theory, developers who would replace single family houses with multiple houses, townhomes or condos would be OK. We do need more housing in general. Although, IDK if real estate developers are a trustworthy bunch.

I haven’t seen loops mentioned in the media, but I have seen a few mentions on reddit. I have seen UpScrolled mentioned in an article.

If 10% of the workers strike, the country will come to a standstill. I don’t know if we’ll get those kinds of numbers but if we do it will put the fear of god into the politicians and oligarchs.

I’m hoping that folks will strike and stay out until Noam and Miller are fired and there are commitments to give the violent CBP and ICE agents real consequences, including investigations and eventually trials for state murder charges. I think that would be enough that many folks would go back to work. I doubt that people are going to hold out until ICE is abolished, since that won’t be in the 1st few attempts at appeasement and no one is prepared to strike for months.

I also doubt that Trump would be removed during a strike since impeachment and removal takes a while. But if the US population really learns to use the general strike because of the shitshow that is the Trump admin, I could see all the money and power people believing that Trump has outlived his usefulness. That could lead to eventual removal.

I never even understood where these assholes were getting this shit until recently. Like who would pay people to protest police brutality or fascism? Like if you care and have that kinda coin, just buy some senators?

BUT when I watched a doc on P Diddy and saw supporters or protesters outside of each of his trials with signs, I thought, some or all of those ding dongs have to be paid to be there, right? It would actually make sense for a billionaire in the middle of a jury trial to pay people to hang outside the courthouse and help sway public opinion.

Kind of a tangent but it just reminded me that a bunch of these oligarchs have probably only experienced protests where either people were protesting them or where they hired people to support them, so their whole perspective is completely bonkers. Not that it explains this sports radio dick who can’t possibly be a billionaire.

There are many different types of protein powders: soy, pea, hemp, pumpkin seed. It’s hard to find sample sizes so the trial and error to find one that doesn’t bother your stomach will be a bit of pain in the butt.

There are also protein bars, which can be a little high in sugar and calories, but if they don’t upset your stomach, they might be a good small on the go snack. It might be a little tricky finding one without lactose and tree nuts, but once you find one that you tolerate well, you can order them by the case.

Eggs, tinned fish and tofu are all huge staples for folks trying to up their protein intake.

Why is any consumer anywhere outside of the US purchasing any of our shit? I recently saw a graph on the global sales of US liquor and most countries had like a 10-20% drop in sales and only Canada went hard with a 60-80% drop (apologies, I’m pulling this from memory so it’s pretty vague).
