Session seems pretty good for this! Not sure if forward secrecy is fully implemented yet but it’s in the works. User interface seems really easy so far.
Not sure about the stability of the maintainers but the FOSS community has been actively supporting it.
I love Organic Maps. Works on Android and IOS. Fully offline (maps predownload at first run) and all route calculation is locally computed so it’s especially good for hiking or where signal is poor.
Only thing I miss is live traffic updates but for me that’s an acceptable tradeoff for the ultimate offline privacy as far as a digital map can do it.
The voice it uses is whatever’s built into the phone’s accessibility features so on some devices it sounds a bit janky, but on Android at least you can install different ones if that bothers you.

I feel like I’m missing something here, but isn’t knowing what’s under the hood exactly the point of projects like Lemmy? The source is available on github, and they explain the algorithms or talk about their political bias pretty openly in most communities.
Were you thinking more from the angle of the way our social biases work as a group, or like the risk of maintainers tampering with the sauce pre-release?

I love Session messenger as a decentralised solution, but man it sucks how little people want to change their habits
I run my own mailserver in docker and it’s not so hard! There was some difficulty at the start with mail going to spam, but after a little while “warming up” the IP with usage, it works fine. It’s hardest to build an IP’s reputation in the beginning because if your mail goes to spam, it doesn’t typically lead to healthy conversations that can support it’s history.
My trick was to forward all my incoming gmail messages from the account I was replacing into the new server - that way I could receive and reply from the new mailserver if people sent mail to the old one. Once it built up a bit of a history it started working fine, and that took maybe a few conversations over a couple of days.
The thing I have noticed is that you very quickly get destroyed by incoming spam - a more advanced filter is definitely on the list.

We fitted that reflective window film all around our place. It’s dead cheap and passively cools the place by blocking UV and some other light. The ones that stick from “static cling” should peel off cleanly if you’re worried about your landlord complaining? It made our place from uninhabitable to tolerable in an evening.
Also for anyone that’s looking, if you’re going for a portable air con, always go for one with two hoses! You can modify some to make them way cooler too.

Oh that’s totally fair! Honestly it’s been a really pleasant surprise? I thought I’d have to fight it but even the few Google apps I needed still worked without an issue. I’ve been gradually sunsetting them one by one and just removed the last one the other day.

I flashed e/os to main and I love it! Automatic blocking of trackers. Clear notices when apps access hardware. Falsified GPS to a plausible location at the flip of a switch. It’s still not perfect but it’s a big step and very easy to install.
I think Graphene is similar?
I love the amount of cycling infrastructure! I can go almost anywhere I’d regularly want without needing a vehicle. It’s literally free, gets me around fast and improves my fitness all in one.
