It really does suck in Germany. At least in Berlin, Citymapper is the bees knees!

i think the overall sentiment of doing your bit is good, but I think this misses some nuance.
When people talk about not focusing on individual action that might not have an effect, often they mean: don’t guilt others for not doing one particular action, or don’t spend all your limited energy litigating actions with small impact.
We all have different constraints, needs and energy levels. Focusing on what the other is doing instead of the systems that cause these problems means that people with disabilities, economic disadvantage, etc. are often scolded for stuff that frankly doesn’t matter.
Oppose systems, support people.

Thanks for linking this. I hope ars makes it more visible. I’ll have to take Benj’s word.
That’s the thing with trust, hard to build, easy to burn.

They already posted their response: https://arstechnica.com/staff/2026/02/editors-note-retraction-of-article-containing-fabricated-quotations/
EDIT: it’s the lack of acknowledgement that they didn’t discover it but the contributor had to go in and correct it, how they locked and deleted the article, etc. I was expecting a bit more tbh

but what if the car lied though.

Same. It’s what I use, I love that you can also BUY music though. Hard to recommend because their user experience needs a lot of work. (Eg. Can’t even change the language. Since I’m in Germany I have no choice but to use German for the ui)

What a shame. I’ve subscribed to ars for years. Their response was disappointing, it doesn’t talk about what happened and what they’re doing to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Nothing about how they handled them makes me trust that they won’t do it again.

I’m pretty sure it lies

Teenagers are one of the most underserved demographics in cities. There’s very few if any third places designed for teenagers. Children and adults both have recreational areas designed for them, but teenagers are considered a nuisance almost anywhere.
This is a failure of urban design.

In this case I think they mean iPhone 9, which I’m still saving my money for
460 migrants for 80 million? What’s that, 173k per person? It would cost less money to pay for them to be set up well to, you know: help the economy, contribute to the pension of the aging population.
Hell, just give them the money directly to go somewhere else lmao.
I missed that! That sucks. Didn’t know about Öffi!
