People in cities should not use guns for self protection, but should also not rely on the police. Instead, less lethal options should be used for self defense like pepper spray, lasers, or maybe rubber bullets. In the vast majority of cases, densely populated areas will have other people close enough that resisting will discourage continued violence if a commotion is started, just because of possible witnesses.

In rural areas people choosing to use guns they have for hunting for the occasional threat is fine because distances are much further and there is nobody nearby to come and scare off someone by being a witness.

The settings are different and have different needs.

As far abolishing the police, the idea is that the current antagonistic police forces are so broken and do so many things that they need to be replaced with something else. Traffic enforcement shouldn’t be the same force that deescalates violent situations which shouldn’t be the same force that responds to people in distress. Having the same people respond to all situations where there is a tiny possibility of violence after being taught to treat everyone as a threat is why we get police rolling up and shooting people in mental crisis, breaking into people’s homes and shooting dogs over some weed, and shooting drivers who are trying to comply with their confusingly shouted ‘instructions’.

Yes, which is why ICE and all immigration enforcement under Trump is many, many times worse than under the Dems and still would be even if the reforms were in place because Trump is ignoring the laws and court orders that should be preventing him from deporting people to 3rd party countries just like he ignored the orders against separating children from parents.

Even if the Dems were sugar and spice and everything nice we would still have some kind of immigration enforcement in place and it would have been twisted into to what it is now because conservatives don’t care about following the laws they dislike.

  • That’s a lot of links. Which one is about Obama directing ICE to steal children from families instead of incarcerating them together in family detention?

I said they dial it back to shitty levels which is not as bad as masked plainclothes agents in unmarked cars kidnapping people on the street or stealing children while families are detained.

  • The studios shouldn’t listen to people like you for most movies because you have an absolute preference for one type of ending that doesn’t fit all movies. They should be filtering out your type of opinion when screening Se7en or Fallen or Hereditary, and thankfully they did, but unfortunately they often overreact and slap in an undeserved happy ending.

It is fine for you to have your opinion on what to watch. I like all kinds of endings as long as they fit. I’m complaining about the studios listening to people who aren’t really the target audience of the movie being made if they want an ending that doesn’t really fit.

  • There needs to be some kind of immigration enforcement just to handle the processing of people as they complete the immigration process. This requires some level of funding, and due to inflation and growing populations it will always result in record breaking funding at some point.

Democrats were denouncing ICE in 2017-2020 because the administration was ordering ICE to pursue practices like stealing children. They are denouncing them now because ICE is kidnapping people off the street and when they show up for court hearings when they are complying with court orders.

This list implies that the Dems are wrong for ever funding ICE and that they are hypocrites for complaining when Republicans are in power. But it glosses over the nuance that ICE really is used far more maliciously when Trump is in power and that denouncing of the specific actions of ICE are completely valid because those are their jackboot thug years.

Dems are shitty on immigration because they are complicit with lowering immigration maximums and excluding too many people while not promoting reforms that improve how ICE behaves. But it isn’t the same thing as supporting the ICEstappo when in office, because they dial it back to a shitty level instead of full on villain mode.

  • They want to make money, which is why they do test screenings and focus groups and whatever else. It tends to result in bland and mediocre movies that do really well financially overall.

The ones that we don’t hear about being changed due to test screenings and executive meddling tend to be creative and interesting. Maybe they did do the test screenings and took the better feedback to improve some things instead of just going with whatever came back. There are multiple ways to use input including ignoring it when the feedback obviously missed the point of the movie, like when they panic and slap a happy ending on because the test audience didn’t like a logically downer ending.
