Yeah, Philip Dreyfuss, a coal hedge fund bro from Piedmont, bank rolled a lot of the recall efforts.

That said, all the of campaign messaging and mailers were about crime. That’s the thread he pulled on to get people to vote for her recall. Dreyfuss’ ground campaign wasn’t about coal at all, he tried to bury that because Oakland hates that shit.

This was honestly not a great time to try to pass restorative justice legislation in CA. People are still pissed about the uptick in crime after the pandemic. Tough on crime stuff has been passing across the board in CA for about 2 years now. SF recalled its DA in 2022, and Oakland just did the same and recalls its mayor.

I would’ve tried to push for this bill at a later date. People are grumpy right now. This thing never stood a chance in 2024.

The GOP will have a slim majority and it will have its Joe Manchin to contend with. Old school republicans like Collins, Murkowski, Curtis are going to have a LOT of power.

Moreover, if you start kicking Americans out of America, that shit is going to be a media cluster fuck. New immigrants and kids of immigrants that voted for Trump will be forced ask “who’s next?”

Agreed, but they would have to pass legislation and imagine the protests and media shit storm Trump would face if he started revoking citizenship. It would be a massive time and energy suck for the GOP.

I’m all for anything Biden can do that will distract this Congress and administration from being able to do other shit.

To be fair, he hires who he thinks will be yes men, then the yes men get in and often realize it’s worse than they thought, they either don’t do what he wants or make him look bad, then they bail or get fired. Been like this for decades with Trump. In office and in private business.

Nothing new. He’s going to staff his administration with yes men. Same as Trump always does.

If you look through that list, some of those things are easy to undo, and some are not. For example, revoking people’s citizenship would be pretty involved and would be a giant shit show.

Good to see Rivian moving away from those cells. I know they’ve been a source of criticism.
