The funny thing about the green card comment is that my wife is Latina and I’m white as can be, so the person was basing their comment entirely on my accent.
When I moved to Los Angeles from N WI people would always ask where I was from; sometimes saying “no” when I said Wisconsin. When I married my wife, somebody at work said it was just so I could get a green card.
Up until my mid-teens I ate almost all the same thing, but then I made a decision to try to be open to trying to eat new things and never stopped.

We’ve had a few fat cats… I’ve never seen something like that on cats (other than abscesses). The only way I could see two bilateral abscesses like that would be from some other cat digging its claws in from behind, but given the time since it has been on the street that doesn’t seem likely. If you can afford it, I’d get it checked out now rather than later.

I think Holtec mostly just makes storage containers for spent fuel. They’re not exactly simple, but orders of magnitude less complex than running a plant.
While a ship, the Lexx was primarily designed as a weapon that could destroy planets, so I’ll go for The Lexx.

Is that how we are going to become the Eloi and the Morlocks?

I guess I better try to recover my old OS/2 drives soon. I keep on procrastinating setting up a box with a SCSI controller so I can copy the contents of my old HPFS drives (some are JFS, so that might last a bit longer).

Usually one of the Star Trek series; currently DS9.
They just know that the cuke will freak out the cat.

Not really; only when somebody uses peertube to share a video

I just recently joined Lemmy; never had a redditt account. Have been using Mastodon for quite a few years now; only ever dabbled in twitter. I like that the fedi stuff seems more organic and less manipulated by algorithms, although, that also makes it easy to miss stuff as well. Still getting a feel for Lemmy and discovering interesting communities. My ultimate social platform was Google Reader (still miss my sharebros/gals. My primary social media after the demise of GR was the comment section, BBS, of BoingBoing – we had a mass departure after the publisher did some petty bans (started our own discourse instance)
Our Atlanta, GA location has snow days when Atlanta gets more than a few cm of snow…
THIS! I recall somebody doing contract review and having AI summarize the contracts just to see how well they did… The AI left out some really important stuff and also occasionally hallucinated stuff that wasn’t there. Summarizing a contract should be pretty black-n-white – if AI can’t handle that properly, I’m not going to trust its summary of something more complex.

Don’t be Afraid of the Dark (1973) scared the crap out of young me… The little creatures lurking in the dark and dragging them away. My older sister reinforcing the fear with stories/teasing didn’t help. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don’t_Be_Afraid_of_the_Dark_(1973_film) I’m sure it would be laughable now, but my sister really knew how to push my buttons.

I’m just happy when I go to a site and all the source for the page is 1st party.
I saw it yesterday with just a “4” pointing to the little piece.
Iran pays for transition surgery. However, there is still massive discrimination.
