Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What open source project is the most exciting for you right now?
2·13 days agoatm, if you’re using Waydroid, you can use Aurora Store/ Droid. No shady websites needed!

1·14 days agoI think it was through Murena Store before (don’t know if it still is)
I was in the same boat as you regarding signing up. I also agree with you that the concept of federation might be confusing for new users. Just gave up at the promt to explore other instances (in lemmy.world sign up) and signed up to lemmy.world.
yeah, that is pretty neat! thanks for sharing! Also noticed that the trunk is hollow. Is that just a visual glitch or something of olive trees?

1·18 days agoI don’t think it will. If it does you will need to jump through a ton of hoops to get it working. I remember when I tried to set It up on WSL i had to manually set up anbox binders, and start dbus up every time. Even after that there were errors preventing me from doing anything beyond downloading the image.

Reddit@lemmy.world•Hey Reddit, how's it going? Reddit:English
2·18 days agoIt mostly doesnt matter what instance you choose as you can talk with almost any other instance.
since there isn’t an advantage of one instance over another and you can talk to everyone, why/ what are the benefits of joining a specific instance?
sidebar: would it be possible to change instances after account creation?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•With comparison comes misery. Do you agree?English
1·23 days agoI’d say yes, as this is what i’m currently experiencing (by comparing myself to others). I’d agree with @agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works’s stance. If you’re not trying to improve and just bashing yourself, you will go down a spiral of misery. I feel like the self-improvement part requires some balance though. You can use this comparison as a source of intrinsic motivation, but you need to keep it from becoming too much to where you become demotivated, keep telling yourself that it is possible, that you can do this.

Programming@programming.dev•Why do some people fork repos but make no changes to them?English
1·23 days agoyeah, makes sense. The cynical part of my mind also led me to your 2nd explanation. :)
My pleasure! I’m happy to help out

11·23 days agoI’d do a PR. Although I would understand forking if the project maintainers wouldn’t merge a PR. (or create an issue (for the fix/ addition) if the README says that it’s an option)

2·28 days agoI’d agree that blender is very good. I find that it would be more suited to static stuff and renderings, as well as animations. FreeCAD is more like the commercial CAD software you’d find (Fusion 360, Solidworks).
On the topic of blender, It has some amazing features, and I am amazed at what people do with it (I also find it a bit tricky, but I probably just need to put a few more hours into learning)

2·29 days agoIf you mean CAD, I found that FreeCAD works nicely as a parametric 3D modeler with some nice macros and addons, with the perk of also running on Linux
E: added info

Paint.net, unfortunately, is a Windows-only software. For Linux, I’d recommend something like Lazpaint. It’s pretty close feature-wise, and I believe that it supports plugins.
