Probably because it’s what a lot of us grew up with. My childhood was dominated by XP and by the time I was a semi-regular PC user, 7 was the state of the art. I remember trying to make the XP installation on my old laptop look more like Vista.
I never liked the classic windows look. It’s so dull and grey.
What the fuck are you talking about? Vista and especially 7 were the best looking windows versions, unlike the flat and dull metro design of 8-10.
I beg to differ. It’s not a „putting up with“. I don’t hate modern flat designs but if I was putting up with anything it’s that.
Loved the translucent look back then, still love it now. Am very looking forward to the design update. Especially since the new design is not just some standard windows aero like transparency but actually has glass like refractions.
I’m very glad we’re getting something with a little more depth again, without going full 180 to the clutter of peak skeumorphic iOS <7.
I’m a little bit concerned about readability of text on the translucent backgrounds but on the other hand, it feels unlikely that Apple didn’t think of that…

It’s still a thing. I gotta listen to my granddad regularly that he wishes the internet was more like the teletext.
That way I won’t get DolbyVision metadata though and getting surround sound workin is a chore, also. Not to speak about comfortable control from my couch without a keyboard/mouse.
Instead, I use an appleTV. It’s ad free, supports all streaming services I need (including my jellyfin) and almost all common video, audio and HDR formats. Even supports VPNs for getting around geofencing.
Besides the initial purchase price (which is steep but there aren’t many comparable devices), not having adblock working in YouTube is really the only actual downside. And for that a few friends and I share a YT family subscription. Has the benefit of my views actually paying the creators for the content they provide me and us not having to pay the ridiculous amounts of solo subscriptions.
Would never use the integrated SmartTV feature of the vast majority of TV manufacturers (LG used to be so good before they put ads everywhere). My TV hasn’t seen an Internet connection even once.
There are people out there Who don’t watch YouTube on their PC. Can’t install a browser plugin on my TV.

I don’t use a case. I like my phone to be small (have an iPhone 13 mini) and a case would somewhat negate that advantage. I also haven’t really seen a case that I like the look of.
I do have a vinyl sticker on the back but it’s more for looks than for protection.
Modern phones are surprisingly durable. I mean, of course, over the time I have my phone it collected a few small nicks on the frame and a few minor scratches on the display but it’s a device I use daily after all.
I’ve only ever had two phones break on me and one of them (my iphone 4S) was accidentally flung across the room by the neighbour‘s boy and even it only needed a new back glass, which I fixed myself.
Framework stepping into the ARM market would be great. While I personally like Apple’s hardware, I love Frameworks philosophy.
I have to disagree on one point of your Asahi assessment though: While the old lead dev has stepped down, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The remaining team has since restructured and is focusing heavily on reducing those maintenance difficulties, besides working on support beyond M2.
Have you looked at an M1 or M2 MacBook with Fedora Asahi Remix (or the Asahi Linux project in general)?

Thanks to the deposit-return system, recycling rates for PET bottles in Germany are indeed very high. Over 97% actually (which is quite awesome). Still leaves a few percent that aren’t, which is still a lot of plastic but we’re way above average.
In the USA for example, only about a third of PET bottles get actually recycled. The rest heads to the landfill or the burner.
For the yellow bag in Germany btw. (our trash system for plastic and compound packaging, tin cans, aluminium foil, etc.), the recycling rate is about two thirds in total.
Nah, there are a lot of glass and plastic bottles that do get reused a couple of times. You can oftentimes even spot a characteristic ring of scratch marks from the machines that process, clean and refill the bottles.

There are multiple standardised types and sizes that are used by a multitude of brands. They are not recycled but reused. (Well, they do get recycled, once they are either broken or show heavy signs of use. The „Normbrunnenflasche“, the 0,7L standard bottle for water, for example, gets refilled about 100 times.)
And of course there is the „Pfand“ (deposit) system: Depending on the type of bottle, you usually pay a 8ct or 15ct deposit on the bottles. The system works pretty well.
Of course, there’s also a lot of one way bottles. Those usually have a 25ct deposit and are not reusable but get recycled instead. They’re usually also being brought back to the store, people want their 25ct back after all. (And yes, I know a lot of them aren’t actually recycled but end up at a landfill all the same).
And of course, there are also a lot of glass bottles that are not being reused and instead recycled by default like wine bottles or some non-standard types.
A lot of people on this very platform who are the very same that are commonly described as „tankies“.

At the same time, you’re not obligated to find them attractive though. And if your partner decides to alter their appearance to the point where you don’t find them attractive any more, ending that relationship is just as valid.
It’s also the very first developer beta. There’s about 3 months left until release and Apple does occasionally listen to feedback. iOS has noticeably changed from dev beta to release on occasion in the past as well. I hope it does this time as well. I really like the principle of the liquid glass design but yea… this isn’t great…
