Even calling it a race is a looking at the issue wrong. They are creating the file with more permissions that necessary and restricting later instead of the other way around.

There was another issue with chroot that had the same fundamental mistake.

Ubuntu did invest in a security audit of uutils. It revealed issues that show fundamental misunderstandings on how to use posix APIs. If they cared about security they would have postponed the adoption at least one more cycle. Uutils are they not ready for general availability.

Plus after decades of bug fixing coreutils doesn’t have lots of security issues.

The VP of engineering of canonical keynoted Rust conf about uutils and is pushing forward the project. My guess is for political capital inside canonical.

Will long term uutils or another coreutils written in Rust will be a great improvement. Today is not the day.

If a Goblins implementation in Rust would effectively be useless

Not saying it would be useless, I’m saying I don’t understand what you mean. Certainly a high-level API on top of OCapN would be useful. Goblins, afaiu, is a guile library. Given that there can’t be a 1-1 correspondence between the API, it is unclear what would a Goblins in Rust would look like. Have you written some [non-working] example code to give a more concrete idea of what you are looking to implement?

I’m confused, why do you say Goblins in Rust instead of a Rust implementation of OCapN. Do you intend to copy the API itself? A Rust implementation OCapN would be indeed useful. It would allow the system to have different parts implemented in different languages. But a Goblin in Rust doesn’t even have a clear meaning API-wise.

I’ve been thinking about how to grow the fediverse in my neck of the woods as the global south has very little adoption. Besides hosting a localized (Spanish in my case) server, most people don’t even know the fediverse exists. So maybe some old school flyer’s and zines to get the word out about the Fediverse. As it stands, most people aren’t making a choice to not be on the Fediverse, they don’t even know it exists.

Interesting, what client is that? It displays properly in the latest mastodon web client (in addition to piefed.social). I checked in ActivityPubExplorer and it seems that the name is the title content is empty and the link is included as an attachment property.

Yeah, it is Japanese style curry. Roughly following the steps in from Just One Cookbokookbook. Normally we just use chicken for a quick (~15 minutes) curry. But occasionally I grab a fatty (and tough to save $$$) peace of meat and slow cook for 4-6 hours.

One difference from the above recipe is that I put the [golden] curry blocks at the end to avoid burning the spices.

Haven’t thought about caramelizing the apples. Will probably experiment with that. When slow cooking I do caramelize the onions on a pad next to the pot.

This time I added them with the potatos, the last 15 minutes. So that they are soft but not too mushy
