  • I was a stupid young man. IMO, most of the reason younger people are less likely to vote is that they are far more likely to be in jobs that, one way or another, provide less opportunity to go vote. Plus they are less likely to be able to afford to take time off or pay for transportation.

Of course there’s vote by mail in many places now, but one of the dumbest moves (for their own interests) conservatives have done is to call into question the legitimacy of mail-in ballots - now conservatives I’ve heard speaking on the matter refuse to use mail-in ballots, which I suspect will end up meaning that some conservative voters that don’t have the time or means to get to a voting booth will miss out on voting entirely rather than send in a mail ballot.

  • Not completely by my own choice, but I feel like I’ve seen National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation - at least in part - once or more per holiday season since it was released.

The same is true of Elf, but obviously that movie is quite a bit more recent.

For movies I’ve watched the most by my own choice, it’s probably the Kill Bills or Inglorious Basterds, but those have got to be way behind in raw count. Goonies and the Back to the Future series probably have honorable mentions because of how long they’ve been around and continue to be a fun watch.

  • Maybe it’s my information bubble speaking, but I feel most people are now recognizing these funding shutdowns to be almost entirely due to Republican actions. With election day less than a week after the “due date” on this one, I think it would be political suicide for Republicans not to fund the government this time around. Though maybe that’s their plan? What happens if the election is held during a shutdown? Would that help their mounting plans to refuse certification of election results they won’t like? Not sure how it would have an impact, since those elections are locally-run. Less oversight maybe?

I see plenty of them around here on the road, but I also see endless regurgitating of this shit online. I kinda get it what it’s boomers on Facebook, but I expect the Lemmy crowd to get tired of the same joke after seeing it the nth time. Guess I place too much confidence in you all.

The worst fate a car that begs for attention can suffer is fading to obscurity. Why keep giving Elon all the attention and engagement he wants? Ignore the stupid thing.

Ugh, we’re still at this? Folks that claim to have their eyes melt out of their face every time they see a Cybertruck sure spend a lot of time posting pictures of them online.

I see about 100 of these hurr-durr cybertruk dum posts for every one I see out on the road. Funny that 99% of the Cybertruck I see is coming from the “haters”.

  • There’s a lot of exciting changes happening and coming in the next few years that seem to have potential to keep the sport interesting / unpredictable.

The way this season started, I never would have expected to get to this point in the season with 7 different race winners, a team threatening to take the lead in the WCC from Red Bull, and at least one driver with a reasonable shot at taking down Max Verstappen.

Hopefully the next few years can be at least as interesting.
