I liked speech class because it made me realise just because I’m firmly introverted, I can be outgoing in the right circumstances.

And it’s fun to make people sit and listen to me go on about my fixations.

We didn’t have speech classes, although there was a speaking part of our English GCSE which counted for some small % of the overall result you get. I did terribly because we were told the subjects we had to talk about and I was both quiet and completely disinterested in the subject.

Seemed more like a test of confidence speaking to a room than you ability to speak English. When you are in a classroom of many people who actively make your life miserable.

It’s important though, I do feel. If you can’t speak to a room unless it’s all people who like you, you don’t really have a voice do you? I’m not very articulate right now, the cider is too strong. But you know what I’m driving at.

There is a difference between talking to people you don’t know and people who have physically harmed you in the past 15 minutes.

Same as most school days really. Would often have people call me names and throw stuff at me in school all day long.

That’s awful, sorry. Intellectually I know bullies are usually abused or in bad situations, but I still hate them. I’ve been bullied and neglected too but I would hate myself if I decided to become an abuser because of it.

Even teachers looked the other way or even blamed me for it. One guy threw me into oncoming traffic after school and our head of year said that I shouldn’t have been climbing a tree because it makes me a target.

Cowards. What could be more detestable than someone in a position of authority who chooses to protect abusers? It’s stuff like this that makes me feel certain that human culture is fatally immature. For all our intelligence and hard work, it’s our basic animal preference for thuggish bastards that will be our downfall
