They call it the Carolingian Empire these days on account of it never being called the HRE in Charlemagne’s day. That was just some propaganda on the HRE’s and Papacy’s part to boost perceived legitimacy in the way all European noble trash traditionally feels it must, claiming descent from Charlie The Magnificent.
Anyways, the EU doesn’t put three things in its name that it isn’t so that’s a better start but at the same time the HRE was the superpower of its day while the EU is letting itself get pushed around by Russia of all things.
I don’t know how much you know about the HRE but if there’s one thing they were good at it’s not letting some backwards serf abusers push them around.
Now, flamboyant peasant abusers, yeah that was a problem for them on occasion.
Yeah, that makes sense about Charlemagne. It was more of a ye olde UN than any actual unified body, right? AFAIK it’s members went to war with each other constantly.
So, who was the flamboyant peasant abuser, and who was the backwards serf abuser?
I’ll go ahead and say the EU has already managed to be less of a joke. Unless we’re counting Charlemagne and the early days.
