Anyone else here upvoted something on Reddit and get banned? We must be doing something right.
I uploaded some privacy-related links and recommendations (e.g. prism-break and Privacy Guides) to the 50501 subreddit. One of my comments was removed twice, and then my account went from suspended to banned. I’ve contacted support, but I haven’t heard anything back. Kind of on the fence about going back now.
You’re very much not alone. I had a friend who had a whole account banned after he posted a privacy guide for student activists. Seriously they literally deleted his whole account in 10 minutes of him posting it. There’s a tremendous amount of censorship
I wish I could export my old reddit posts into my post history on my lemmy account somehow, before deleting all my reddit posts.
There’s tons of astroturfing from bots as well. Every other post about organizing is full of bots spouting negativity and right wing talking points.
In big threads on major subs they still get downvoted. In smaller ones you see then everywhere getting upvotes.
There was a post about the 34k people who showed at an AOC rally today and it was all “this won’t do anything” “crowds don’t matter” “this won’t win elections” “liberals are losers” etc. Even saw some trying to call AOC and Sanders “oligarchs” lol
That’s exactly the same reason I left reddit a year ago. This was happening in every political subreddit. Just massive astroturfing. All the previous leftist subs I liked had either gone soft “american style neoliberal leftist” or full on pro-Russia. Basically no more libertarian socialist or anarchist communities except for the ones actually named after those ideologies.
yea reddit is insufferable now (well, has been for at least 10 years)
The mod-system is totally toxic as well. I can’t stand it.
