I’ve migrated from Reddit. Loving Lemmy so far, but having tried with each of the various frontends available, I still find it hard to relate to. Is there anybody out there who could create a stylemonkey whatchamahuji like ‘Reddit Enhancement Suite’? I would if I could, but I am not good at such things.
Try photon
Do you have iOS? Try Voyager as it’s pretty much like the old Apollo for Reddit.
Regrettably no, I am strictly windows. That statement doesn’t make me feel good.
Welcome to Lemmy, in six months you’ll be running Linux, lol.
Voyager can be run in windows as a webapp - you can try it at https://vger.app/posts/lemm.ee/all, or even run it locally in a docker container with no dev knowledge needed
run it locally in a docker container with no dev knowledge needed
I wouldn’t put docker in front of a nontechnical person. It was a stretch to convince my dad to watch movies on my Jellyfin server because he would be “connecting to another system” which he found concerning. I can’t imagine beginning to explain docker or how to use it to someone who just wants to download and use an app.
Not to say OP can’t figure it out or isn’t technical enough, but I would just hesitate to suggest docker as a beginner-friendly “no dev knowledge” solution.
That’s fair enough. I’ve gotten a number of non-devs hooked on docker containers for running self-hosted apps that didn’t have a desktop counterpart, but admittedly they were otherwise technically oriented. OP might want to look into it if they’re so inclined, but it’s easiest to just use Voyager from the website :)
It took me like a month before I was comfortable working with them on my server, but once I finally started figuring it out, I doubt I’ll ever run another server without it haha. All hail docker!
Thanks, shall look into it.
I just learn that voyager is also available for iOS… 🤣
Boost for Lemmy is also incredibly similar to the old experience. That may work for you?
Design choices are never universal, people have different tastes so anyone who shits on you for your UI preferences is just an asshole. We all like habits and form strong preferences about what we’re using.
I use Sync as I really enjoyed the reddit version. It just feels comfortable for me to use.
Mobile users are trash.
Lol what? How and/or why?
You may want to be a little clearer. Are you after a mix of the old style Reddit interface alongside what RES added?
If so I can’t remember what RES added, but I gather it’s enough that the old style frontend may still feel lacking and the others aren’t scratching that itch either.
There’s nothing for Lemmy that I know of, but in the beginning of the first migration from Reddit there was such a thing being worked on by various people for Kbin. Kbin unfortunately is broken for a while now due to the developer’s health issues, but there was a fork made called Mbin. And the good news is that the extensions for Kbin seem to work for the most part with Mbin via ViolentMonkey. I can’t recall if I had to do much of anything to tweak it. I don’t know if there’s been any work since then, only that it still works for me now.
I looked back to find something to recommend to research, but short of using VM and searching for scripts to use with a Mbin site (like fedia.io) I’m not sure.
Wow, that sounds like you’ve set me an epic quest! Thanks! Shall look into it :)
Try to search around for things in the past mentioning both Kbin and extensions, as well as the Monkey script addons (VM ended up being the stable one, but other versions were used). Hopefully you can find archived discussion about it all somewhere.
