Is there no sympathy left in this country for the rest of us?

I am in New Mexico. I grew up with the heat, so I am relatively well adjusted to it, but still hate it.

I feel for you in areas that are not used to this, and do not have infrastructure to deal with it in your homes.

    Stay hydrated.

Good point about infrastructure. We have no air conditioning or anything. And now that you mention it - I haven’t drank enough water today. Thanks.

i even bought one of these things. Takes an ice pack in either side. Completely useless! I’m getting more cold from just putting the ice packs on my body.

i wish you cooler weather, shade and a load of hydration! 🤞

i choose to believe that the people who can handle this weather are only a vocal minority, because all the people who can’t handle it are staying indoors and lying down on cooling mats / cold tile floors all day 🫠😭

spring and autumn are my time to shine, but i need to hibernate and aestivate, lol

GRMA a chara. You know, I prefer your way of looking at it. I had assumed we had all died off from natural selection :D

I must look into cooling mats. Never heard of them before - thanks!

We’ll be remembered fondly as the gentiles, who sadly did not evolve quickly enough to keep up with fossil fuel emissions.

Ah, the YouTube search results is all about dog mats and I was wondering what was up with that. I’m happy to buy myself a collar too if that helps :D

nahh, the trick is to plant trees whenever & wherever possible, to reforest ireland’s rainforest! when they’re all grown up, we’ll finally have some shade outdoors, flood prevention, windbreaks, habitats for wildlife, etc etc 💪

hah! it might be silly, but it’s way more convienient and comfy than sticking my feet in a basin of water all the time, lol

I grew up in Florida without A/C so am adapted, I looked and this would be a balmy spring day here, not hot at all, but WTF? If you live where it’s usually cool why isn’t everyone adapted to that?

I still get too hot here when it’s 38C but know how to sit still with the fans on, on the porch, can be comfortable. Still would not prefer it. About 27-30 outside is great, and for a beach day a little hotter so that it feels good to get in the water.

A/C in the house set to 78f so that is 26, and comfortable, it’s low enough to remove the humidity and keep mildew out.

We are sun lovers (myself excluded). Hot holiday destinations are popular, for example. I’ve just never been able to handle anything above 17-19 degrees Celsius.

Our homes are designed for the cold climate, so they tend to (ideally) retain heat - which is becoming a problem as temps rise. No A/C here. I do have fans, but I think I’ll have to look into an actual air conditioner for just one room and camp out there on the days this happens. It’s going to get worse.

That’s our winter temperature, I would be putting on a sweater at 17!

And yeah I’m sure it’s mostly that we become adapted to where we grow up. It IS hotter here than it used to be, too. Not so much the winters, which have often (not always) been mild historically and the cold snaps are sometimes colder than they used to be too. Double-tap freeze this year killed my newly planted garden. Yuck.

Ouch - sorry to hear about the garden, that does sound pretty devastating.

On the row of several houses I live on, the men all seem to be struggling with the indoor heat while the women are loving it. Not exactly a decent sample size but surprising!
