Yes, I think that the idea of having a cop hovering over my conversation, dictating who can talk and what they can say, is abhorrent. I admit it.

So I asked. Discussion happened. Some of it hot. Some of it useful. It was going places.

Then the mod of asklemmy bans the whole show.

The self-awareness of a paramecium, I tell you.

I honestly think that most of us are so used to being monitored and told what to do/say/think that we prefer it.

Moderation is normal for any group. Sometimes there’s explicit rules and active moderation. Sometimes, they’re implied, as with a basic friend group.

Going into a community and expecting absolute free speech is not reasonable.

Anyone can create their own instance at any time if they want.

Or most instances allow the creation of a community, subject to the instance rules.

People can say whatever they like inside of their own homes, it’s when they go into other people’s homes that they need to play by the rules of the homeowner, or else gtfo.

I haven’t clicked any links here or looked at the modlog, I was just responding to your comment in the general sense.

So you have no knowledge of the conversation but you see fit to offer accusations all the same.

It’s this level of awareness and maturity that I’ve come to expect from lemmy.

Judging from all of your comments here, I’d highly suggest that if you keep smelling shit everywhere you go, maybe you should check your shoes.

I seriously can’t fathom coming into a place, badmouthing everyone already there, and then being surprised when they react negatively.

Also, if you want a place without moderators overseeing everything with a fine toothed comb, there are countless *chan sites with minimal moderation (only removal of heinously illegal content). You might seriously have a better experience on one of them if you find lemmy stifling. There’s even a number of them now that allow users to make their own boards for whatever niche topic they want.

But I didn’t badmouth anybody. Not a one.

And it was a perfectly plausible hypothetical with lots of interesting ramifications to explore. Fascinating stuff.

But you people don’t do that. Or rather, the dominant 99% of you don’t do that.

And any sane person who spends any time here talking to you shallow clowns must be truly desperate. I speak from experience.
