I think this is sort of missing the point. While it is true that people are less likely to leave a service if they are more comfortable or if it is more convenient. They are also less likely to leave that service if the alternative is less convenient itself. This is why Linux has not had the worldwide adoption that its fans have wanted it to have. Even if you make setting things up easy, staying there isn’t. This is the same with a lot of things, such as Matrix which tries to push back against Discord but misses the mark.
Lemmy is also an example. It has fewer features than reddit that make it less convenient. Not many, mind you, but some. I know people who refuse to sign up here because there isn’t native video hosting/embeds like with v.reddit.
Is this good? No. Is it acceptable? Personal opinion. But people are willing to move to ANYTHING if given an incentive and a stable/simple alternative. Laziness is making a good idea that’s only been half baked, put it on the shelves and then confused to hell why people aren’t buying it.
