This interview helps put a face to the name of non-western AI companies. At a time when OpenAI, Meta, Google, Facebook and Microsoft are having AI aggressively eat into search results, text and image editors etc., it is helpful to see what’s going on elsewhere. I can’t make claims about the social benefit of Chinese AI companies but having been weaned off Nvidia the ecosystem is gonna have to take untrodden paths. Let’s hope they are less shit than what has been foisted upon us by our big tech overlords.

    It sounds like devs working at Deepseek are living the dream. The environment is collaborative and open-source, with a focus on passion and interest rather than monetization. And it sounds like it’s largely self-directed with people working on projects that genuinely interest them, which is great for creativity and innovation. This is absolutely amazing stuff.
