The Global South-led organization BRICS continues to expand, adding 9 partner countries in January 2025, after admitting 4 new members in 2024. The group now makes up roughly half of the global pop...
Yeah… you’re gonna have to do better than that. That article is almost entirely based on the Black Book of Communism, a known bullshit book filled with ridiculous numbers and “estimates”.
Like it includes Nazis killed in WW2 as “victims of communism”. And if those are the victims, good riddance in my books…
Their sacrifice in WW2, which was from a certain point on deliberate and ideology based(as in that they would not accept any rule of nazi ideology), has served even you. Unless you want a world where the nazis didnt lose, you too are in the debt of these tankies.
Kinda normal for someone who actively promotes the invasion of an allies’ territorial land with the military (like an imperialist pig) to dislike “tankies”.
I was wondering why a obviously sarcastic comment got so many downvotes. But I kind of realize every now and then that people really can’t distinguish between a sarcastic one and a genuine one without the “/s” tag, even if I think it’s so on the nose that I think it can’t be mistaken.
Only if you want your feed to be an echo chamber. In my opinion the best thing about the fediverse is that you can choose the rules and values you want to adhere to through your instance choice, without cutting off interaction with others unless you defederate their instances.
The frequent calls to blanket dismiss anyone on those instances are an unfortunate overreaction in my opinion.
Agreed. There are some tone deaf people from those instances who think their perspectives are the only true ones, but that’s true of any sufficiently large and unified group.
.ml is not a “tankie instance”. The admins are Marxist-Leninists, so they fit some definitions of tankie, but its just a technology instance for leftists.
Hexbear isn’t one either. A lot of their users are, but there are just as many who aren’t, such as anarchists (basically the opposite).
Tankie is a pejorative label generally applied to authoritarian communists, especially those who support acts of repression by such regimes, their allies, or deny the occurrence of the events thereof. More specifically, the term has been applied to those who express support for one-party Marxist–Leninist socialist republics, whether contemporary or historical. It is commonly used by anti-authoritarian leftists, including anarchists, libertarian socialists, left communists, democratic socialists and reformists to criticise Leninism, although the term has seen increasing use by liberal and right‐wing factions as well.
The only time I’ve seen it be applied to anarchists is when Reddit libs don’t like anyone left of them doing stuff like protesting, but normally the Wikipedia definition is how I see the word used.
I didn’t say the definition was correct because Wikipedia says so, I said that’s how the word is normally defined, and the Wikipedia definition (which was the first thing that popped up) aligns with my experiences with how I’ve seen the word used. So when you say the word “tankie” includes anarchists, I’m wondering whose definition or what reasoning are you pulling from.

Hey all, our favorite court jester is back to entertain us!
While Im not a tankie, they do have some historical appeal. You know like beating the Nazis, some small things here and there.

Oh look, Holocaust denial.
Source? Never heard of this. They genocided ethnic minorities and instituted privatization, eroding worker rights?

Oh look, even more holocaust denial

I think the problem is that there are people who genuinely react like this unironically so it’s safer to just take it at face value.
furthering the explanation: tankie as a term came about from people who agreed with the USSRs use of tanks to quash revolt in hungary
It’s also on Youtube.
Thanks for commenting. I miss when the big wave of redditors hadn’t showed up yet…
Now look up what peertube is.
What does it matter what software they use? I see that they uploaded it on this specific instance and I have to assume that they did this on purpose.
Because they actually uploaded it to YouTube not peertube, the tankie-tube link is just an unoffical mirror of the youtube channel.

I’ve seen a lot of anarchists on Hexbear, lemmygrad is explicitly ML though
Anarchists are absolutely considered tankies at this point.
Anarchists find it really hard to support despotic regimes even when they’re opposing the USA.
Lol, as opposed to those non-despotic “regimes” that you, an anarchist, believe in.
Get out of here, liberal.
uh no they’re not? Anarchists are about as anti-government as it gets
Edit: unless you mean liberals can’t tell the difference between different leftists
Uh, yes they are?
Tankie just means anyone to the left of the US Overton window.

Have shitlibs like you ever read anything other than Wikipedia? Serious question.

So people who don’t support modern Russia aren’t tankies? You’d better tell all the fucking shitlibs here that.
