From Twilight Zone to X files to Fringe. Random sci fi concepts in a story with overarching plot. Did streaming kill it?
Black Mirror
Love Death and Robots
twilight zone never traversed episodes. they were all stand-alone vignettes
Why would streaming be the culprit?
From memory streaming services greenlight on a per season basis. While pre 2010s you would be greenlit for 2 or 3 seasons and you would hear after the first season of you would be renewed.
Okay but how would that hurt science fiction anthologies specifically?
Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams
This is actually a well done scifi anthology series that respects many of the themes and motifs present across Philip K. Dick’s works.
While I have not read the short stories (I’ve mostly read his novels; about ~20 of them), many of the episodes have that psychedelic edge that Philip K. Dick is known for.
Most shows want to have a regular staff, especially if some are stars. With anthology each episode require new casting.
