I think it’s important to point out that just because far-right parties have an anti-EU rhetoric, it doesn’t mean they’ll follow through. It wouldn’t surprise me if the AfD, instead, wants to reorganize the EU to better serve Germany’s interests and imperialist tendencies.
That’s possible, but I think that EU is a type of organization that’s structurally incapable of dealing with the type of economic crisis that Europe is in. It worked in the time of plenty because tensions could be papered over by shuffling money around, but once the pot runs dry, countries that are better off start pulling up the ladders. Recall that the last financial crisis was solved by northern Europe imposing mass austerity on the southern Europe which the south still hasn’t recovered from. This time around the same type of trick would not be possible because the south is already deeply immiserated.
