I actually thought this was a fantastic season finale! Season 3 will deal with…

    Tap for spoiler

…Checkmate and ARGUS at war with each other, probably. The team will find Peacemaker and Peacemaker will probably meet someone there on Salvation as an enemy or ally.

As for the big connection that is supposed to inform the “gods and monsters” part of the DCU, I think it’s going to be Darkseid and the New Gods. The doorway technology is going to be what gets their attention and ARGUS’s plan/war on metahumans is what will be the overarching problem until their actions trigger Darkseid’s involvement.

Hmmm. Not sure how I feel about this. Good episode, poor finale maybe?

I’m just left feeling kinda blah. Nothing really felt like it got resolved. And then we’re left with a cliffhanger…

Yeah, felt like start of another season. Felt little underwhelmed.

Episode 7 was more of finale.

Also planning to watch tonight, but most shows end on a cliffhanger for the season finale. I’m not sure why anyone would be surprised by this.

Quite liked the season overall though episode 7 felt like it should have been the finale, what with it mostly wrapping up the nazi-dimension story. This episode felt more like an epilogue and setup for Checkmate.

I think there is something to be said for the resolution to the ARGUS conflict being about finding support in your local community when the government fails its people. Checkmate could have stormed ARGUS like they did last season with the butterflies, but I feel like the characters have grown in the time since the cow hunt. It does make for an ending with little catharsis though. Flag and Lex’s cronies all skip away scot free which feels bad, despite how accurate it would be to our own reality.

    Huh.

I liked a lot of individual things in this episode… But as a finale I don’t think it worked.

I have to guess that Rick Flag Sr isn’t Rick Flag Sr or is being otherwise manipulated. Harcourt calling him General, and then correcting to Rick has to mean that isn’t Rick since he didn’t care. Rick Flag Sr also gave Lex’s goons A LOT of freedom.

The obvious guess here is Clayface, especially since we saw him in Creature Commandos, so we know he’s in the world. However when did the switch happen? Also throwing Peacemaker into Salvation “for Ricky”, that seems more like something real Rick might do, so is it just powerful mind suggestion?

And I guess Peacemaker season 3 will just be called “Checkmate”? I sorta wish more had happened with everyone leaving ARGUS. They just leave and no one seems to care.

In a lot of ways this episode kind of felt like it should have been the start of a new season. The exploration through the dimensions doesn’t really fit the tension that was building through the season. The building of the new agency seems more of a building up Point than a finale kind of thing. All in all there’s some major tonal issues I’d say. The very last part works pretty well though.
