They got an advice from someone older: that men would hardly believe that women belonged on bikes at all — so to properly dunk on men, these gals needed to ride well while also looking good. High heels were originally worn by men when they rode horses. The pronounced heel helped lock into stirrups.
I imagine heels also help lock into motorcycle pegs.
