Underneath this is the two wireless charging pads, which are rubberized so they have a good grip on the bottom of the tray.

But…it’s the perfect dimensions. Like, this had to be an intentional design choice, and I very much approve.

Damn yall are openly hostile towards this OP who just wanted to share something they thought was cool. Im glad none of yall have ever ridden in a vehicle that’s oversized for what you need and have never not once drank anything from a paper or plastic cup. Good for you.

Coca cola down the street from my house dumps tons and tons of pollution into the air, water, and land of America with their manufacturing, but this guy is the problem.

      Thank you for your perspective.

My wife wanted a coffee and the kids tacked on begging for refreshers. I decided to get myself one too. I guess this makes me climate enemy #1. I’ll tell Taylor she can keep flying her jet around, because I’ll cancel my once-a-week indulgence.

What it really is is that, when you are transporting multiple drinks, most cars don’t give much of an option for where to put them. You can scatter them throughout various cupholders, or you can put the tray on the slanted passenger seat where it will not doubt leak onto your upholstery.

In 24 years of driving I’ve never had a car that solved this particular problem. Making this discovery oddly satisfying.

I mean I think its cool too! The amount of time I’ve had to drive with a drink between my legs because of not enough cup holders is crazy, its super cool that it not only fits all the drinks, but the carrier as well. Less of a chance of spillage. Stuff like this wouldve been a gamechanger when I was doing food delivery gig work

With apologies for the cynicism: it’s great that your unnecessarily oversized, gas burning SUV tank, a type of vehicle which is particularly bad for pedestrians and bicyclists alike in an accident situation, has a space designed for this entirely avoidable single-use plastic-and-cardboard combo.

Not everyone can have an electric car, dumbass.

And I sure as fuck can’t afford to live somewhere where biking/walking is a possibility. I’ll keep my quiet house in the suburbs over a tiny ass apartment that costs 3x as much. Its good enough for me that I’m 5 miles from the train station. But I certainly wouldn’t be taking my bike down the windy, hilly, and unlit roads to the train station. Too many idiots in giant cars. That’s why nobody bikes.

Believe me, I wish I didn’t have to have any car. That’s not possible in America, unless you earn enough to live in a large-ish city where that infrastructure exists. And that’s a tradeoff around other QoL factors (like noise, pollution, space, etc).

But for now I’m happy with the family “SUV” (I wouldn’t call any unibody vehicle an SUV, but that’s how the makers want to classify it). It’s large enough for our needs…like transporting all the stuff my wife refurbs and flips, or kayaks for recreation, etc. Trust me, we use every cubic foot of that car and thensome.

In fact, I chose this vehicle specifically because it was the cleanest and most efficient in its class.

But, ya know, keep being a judgemental dick. That’s clearly working well for you.

I understand that within the confines of your life you feel car ownership, even of a vehicle that contains an internal combustion engine, is a necessity. I get that and really don’t judge you got that.

What I think you didn’t pick up on is the sheer decadence in your post. Your within-the-confines-of-your-life-necessary car is still bad for the environment. SUVs are big and heavy. If you ride it with an empty trunk by yourself half the time or more you bought too big a car. SUVs really are bad for smaller, more vulnerable participants in traffic. And you were praising that the middle console is perfectly designed for the future landfill fill you got your sodas served in. That’s a bit like the frog sitting in the pot of water as the temperature increases praising the craft of the pot maker. I found that remarkable enough to comment upon, cynically, with a warning up front and without name calling.

If you feel judged here, consider that there are reasons for it that bother you as well. And you don’t have to agree with everything I write here. I’m guessing though honestly you don’t disagree with all of it.

This is why Americans are Plus sized. With their plus sized cars, and plus sized cups.

I think what happened is factories now produce touch screen buttons to such a degree of efficiency and scale that it’s actually more expensive for a car manufacturer to switch back and buy regular buttons again

The climate and seat warmer/cooler controls are capacitive touchscreen, I think…but most of the controls for infotainment are physical. The overall UI/UX for the car is pretty sweet…save form some odd quirks (for some reason my phone will occasionally reboot when android auto is being used; sometimes if I drive the car after my wife, the seat tries to kill me), it’s been pretty good.

What is very clever is that the star button can be custom-mapped. I have it set up for “Passenger talk”. It lowers the radio and turns on an in-car intercom so I don’t have to yell for my kids to hear me.

I assume this is the Santa Fe? I was in my friend’s a few days ago and the interior looks the same. I found the “proximity membrane” (my own words) for when you were getting too close to something, interesting.

          That’s correct.

You mean like when you’re about to hit something?

Or when you’re pulling into a parking spot and it shows you how much room you have to open the doors (green you can open most the way, yellow be careful)?

Or do you mean the smart lift gate? Because that’s another small gripe. I was standing next to the car trying to unlock it and my kid walked behind…we were backed in close to a wall and the trunk opened and pinned him against it.

You know…come to think of it, maybe this car isn’t more safe than my old one. It seems like it’s set out to kill me and my kin while leaving itself unscathed.
