Here’s a place to discuss the recent Strange New Worlds episode. Spoiler warning of course!
I haven’t really thought about the episode a huge amount yet, but I did enjoy it. It was nice to see Ortegas finally get an episode too!
It was nice that they didn’t try to balance a bunch of different background plots like they do sometimes, that would have been especially annoying in an episode like this. It was nice to see Ortegas learning more about and becoming friends with the Gorn, even though it seemed obvious from the beginning they weren’t going to survive. I was only trying to decide whether they would die by space centipede bite or by a security team. Everything else was pretty good, but my biggest annoyance was having the Metrons show up. Not that it really surprised me based on the episode title, but including them really added nothing to the story. They could have spent that time on an Ortegas/La’an scene instead of just a quick mention at the end. It’s not a huge issue, but it did lower my opinion of the episode a little.
Overall I would probably give this one a 8/10, maybe a 7.5. I’ll be rewatching it this evening, so I’ll see if that changes anything!
I really enjoyed this episode as well. It was great to see the Gorn as something other than a slavering killing machine.
