As a German, I will never understand how there can still be Germans left who keep glorifying these two.
I mean, any normal and civilized person must abhor war and the crimes that were committed in the name of the Kaiser and Hitler. For 99% of civilization, this should be more than enough to hate them.
But even if, for some reason, you’re a German nationalist prick who is somehow okay with the notion of conquest and attacking peaceful nations - you should still hate these two assholes for all the damage they caused to Germany. Just looking at the map, all the German territory that was lost.
My point is - it’s completely illogical and bizarre that Nazis even still exist. Their existence violates all principles of reason and humanity.
Let me tell you about Stalin. Sitdown son.
I hate this joke because that wall did exactly what it was supposed to do, redirect the german armies around it and through Belgium.
Remember how the Germans where stalled for years in that territory during WWI? That was the plan for the next invasion, too. It’s neither the wall’s nor its planners’ fault the Wehrmacht switched from trench warfare to Blitzkrieg.I’m aware of the history/intricacies of of this, and agree with you. I was posting a meme in response to Hitler calling “Belgium” a “Speedbump”
And wasn’t the Maginot Line still effective at preventing the German army from just waltzing directly into France during WWII?
No, not at all. Again, the Maginot Line was built from WWI experience when large infantry armies fought slow battles. Tanks were not considered at all during the planning of the wall and also during construction, the line got more expensive and compromises had to be made. But in the end, the Maginot Line did what it was supposed to do and forced a considerable part of the german invasion force through Belgium, where the Allies waited for them.
However, that was kind of futile since the Panzerkorps blitzed through a weak point in the line in the Ardennes, cutting off allied forces in Belgium and forcing/letting them retreat onlyover the channel. After that, France couldn’t mount another defense and had to capitulate.
However however, some artillery forts were never destroyed by the Wehrmacht. They proved themselves to be hard to capture, some didn’t stop flying the french flag. But they were too insignificant for the most time so the germans didn’t care a a lot. Rather, those forts were cut off from the rest and the crews were locked and besieged. Some had supplies for another few months but mounting more resistance would have been senseless in the face of the french capitulation.
Strong word for such a flat country
I don’t see flat, I see full of rivers and bogs.
Doesn’t read like mountains to me…
You can add a Dutch tourist with a caravan to the bottom picture.
