A masked guy breaks down your door w/o an Article III warrant absent exigent circumstances? Yeah, I’d agree. Trick will be that pressing the murder charge would be federal since a federal agent dies in the line of official work (though illegal), which would give the president grounds to push for death.


It’d be complicated, sure, but that’s a drop in the much larger bucket of a case. What does a reasonable person know or believe at the moment of the perceived danger though? Won’t rule it out but can’t see a courtroom conclusion stating that I should have hopped on my computer to do a background check first. I do have evidence of a murderous gang of terrorists targeting people (citizen or otherwise) on American soil, however, and they like to dress up in an imitation of police gear.
Don’t get me wrong, morally you’re almost certainly justified.
It’s just that historically self defense or defense of others claims on killing a law enforcement officer are a huge uphill battle in the courts.
It’s extremely rare for a court to find killing an officer justified.
