    The group photo is 99% and Sam makes up 98% … the image is cropped that removed a Great Eagle that made up the other 1%

      Speaking of which, why didn’t they just have the eagle fly them to Mount Doom and back? Surely the Über Bird would have been more efficient.

      Edit: I really thought asking this question would have caused more of a shit storm because it’s such a known cliche question. But the question was actually answered for future generations and nobody insulted me. I call that a win on the interwebz any day. Written on the 5th of December 2025 (in case the metadata gets stripped).

        The whole point of the fellowship was to sneak the ring into mordor quietly so Sauron wouldn’t be able spot it until the last minute when it was too late.

        Putting frodo on the back of an eagle and flying into mordor is putting a giant sign in the sky saying “it’s here” and since Sauron had very powerful forces within mordor up until the battle of the black gate, he would have taken the ring easily.

        The power level of the eagles surpasses or equals that of Gandalf and Galadriel. They get near the thing and Sauron would instantly know where it was.
