I expected mods outside .world, .ml and beehaw to be kind of normal. Turns out nope.

Does everyone here exist to further his agenda and just that?

Did people just forget that talking exist?

It started to feel like:

On Reddit, the highest crime you can do is working againest the Algorithm.

On Lemmy, the highest crime you can do is just saying anything that people might not like.

BTW, none of my posts on the gaming community was political.

I guess I will have to wait for further bans to come, to be 100% sure that I am currently using the right communities.

                Just a heads up, keeping on going after someone says “Disengage” is ban-worthy in this community. I get it. People are jumping on ya, and you wanna defend yourself. But “Disengage” means the discussion has to end. If we don’t follow that guideline, most of the comments here just spiral into infinity of back and forth.

                So if you don’t delete your comment, good chance you can get banned here. I’m not your boss tho, so you do you. I’m only pointing it out because the rule was pointed out to me once and helped me.

                I’m not defending you or any others here, just giving you some facts.

                  The sidebar does not mention any “Disengage” rule.

                  If I get banned, then I would simply call it what it’s a power tripping.

                  We did not leave Reddit and come to Lemmy so mods could mod by magic, we left Reddit so we can get more transparency.

    Eh, it’s generally a divisive issue when preemptive bans occur, and I didn’t see recent posts on that community, only elsewhere. Same with comments over the last two days. So I suspect this is a preemptive ban rather than one for immediate cause.

    Keep that in mind during the rest of this.

    I’m not certain this is power tripping, but I can’t say for sure that your account that you posted this with fully deserved a ban purely on the reason given. There are reasons based on behavior in other ways, but that comes back to whether or not any given individual believes preemptive bans are a useful and acceptable tool, and every time it comes up, the community tends to devolve into arguing about that rather than whatever an OP did.

    Now, I’m in the camp that believes preemptive bans can be a useful tool. I just believe they need to be used rarely and surgically.

    In this case, it comes down not to the post that started the whole thing, but how you handled everything after that.

    The removal reason shown in this post doesn’t match what you did. Again, I only went back a little through the user history of this account, not any others you may use or have used in the past.

    From this side of the screen, your comments are on the borderline of justifying a preemptive ban. I wouldn’t have done one, not without more than what’s visible in the last two days. If I had, I wouldn’t have used that reason at all.

    That’s why I think this specific ban from the gaming community is really on the knife edge. Unless there was more to see that I didn’t scroll back far enough to see, or there are factors I’m unaware of, it does lean a little closer to PTB, but you really gotta recognize that you were either crossing civility line, or walking right up to them and spitting on the other side of it. Yeah, some of what you were responding to did as well, but two wrongs don’t make a right.

    That’s my take on it. I suspect there’s more going on with the decision to ban you like that, or I’d lean heavier to the PTB side, but there’s a limit to how far back I’m willing to scroll looking for a specific comment that may or may not be relevant. That’s another personal peeve for me with the mod log; there should be more than an accusation in it when it’s a preemptive ban, and that’s not a one click process to make happen. So it doesn’t happen often.

    Makes guesstimating for this community a slog.

      Idk I would still feel more comfortable if communities gave users a chance to explain themselves first. For example, I would be okay with preemptive bans if the user openly supports genocide. However, going on the linked context alone, OP could just be relaying propaganda accidentally, without the knowledge of why sharing such news can harm the public view of the victims of Israel and sway more opinions toward defending Israel’s cruel actions (that started in October 2023, not including their constant cruelty towards Palestinians/Gazans over history).

      It seems, as with a couple of comments in the contextual post, that simply relaying the news - in a news community no less - has triggered a few snowflakes. However the news itself is problematic, in that it implies that the abuse the hostages received actually happened, instead of focusing on the only fact - that an Israeli report states this.

      My opinion stands - as important as it is to fight back against Zionism, cruelty against living beings and oppression of freedom, I believe community leaders should try to hear from the user directly, in order to determine if a ban is necessary.

        Doesn’t want Israel destroyed is enough to get banned for supporting genocide on many parts of lemmy. Many mods delete posts and ban users that don’t follow a pro Hamas political line, regardless if rules where broken or not.

          My fiance is Jewish (disagrees with much of what Israel is doing tho and isn’t very political). She was on here to check it out, and because I was hyping up the concept of Lemmy.

          The hate for all things Jewish scared her to death and now she questions why I’m on here so much! lol

          The extremism here, tho started out for rightful intentions, is quickly leaning to antisemitism in some corners of Lemmy. It’s very ironic and weird watching some posters go from anti-nazi everything to anti-jewish everything. Sometimes in the same post.

          I don’t know what the fuck Lemmy is turning into. I think some just wanna watch the world burn and will jump to whatever side has the matches.

        Yea I agree. someone could very well be ignorant of the situation so I wouldn’t do a preemptive ban if that were the case. but if they are aware they’re parroting Zionist propaganda rubbish and continue doubling down on it despite being educated then I’d say a preemptive ban is justified
