refusing to aid and abet fascists in my community has nothing to do with the government’s decisions on who to hurt or help, it’s a personal choice. something most americans seem to have forgotten how to do, which is the real most important part of american politics.
i don’t disagree with the sentiment, but the context you bring it up in is sussy.
A person’s actions make them what they are. If this neighbor is calling ICE on people, sure yeah they’re a fascist.
But if all this lady did was vote for Trump, that’s not really enough. That’s barley one action, from over half a year ago. Less than that, if its not even in a swing state. If people are showing regret after seeing whats been happening, fuck I don’t know maybe you grow a bigger coalition with honey than with vinegar.
Voting for Trump is plenty. Make Trumpists suffer. The warning signs were all there. He ran a tabloid style ad talking about transgender surgeries in prison. That’s how desperate they were to fearmonger. They said immigrants were eating people’s cats and dogs. And 77 million people gladly lined up to vote for that naked hatred.
Fuck Trump voters. Hope they choke on their next meal.
Yes yes, so cathartic to imagine. But that’s all it is.
Momentary catharsis. You can’t build anything out of it, cus if you did, it’s ultimately just, “round up all the bad people who disagree with me, let them die, and then everything will be better!” and oops, that’s just what Trump is doing
So what you’re saying is that there will be massive negative consequences for the actions of Trump and his goons?
Or are you saying that progressives wouldn’t be able to do the same thing and that we have to be docile and empathetic to their stupidity and cruelty?
Because it seems to me that there is no possibility of consequences for the Trump administration or for conservatives in general and that this is a roadmap that proves that if they get power like this again there will be, once again, nothing to stop them.
