I’m visiting Korea atm. Every form of public transit is totally silent at all times. No one talks and it is rude to do so.

Can we start with my neighbour’s house please? Preferably between 10pm - 8am on Friday and Saturday nights.

Also, they need to still be free to the public.

And preferably, have food or drinks instead of books.

Like, a really quiet coffee shop.

I think it’s weird that the meme is about places where everyone needs to shut the fuck up but half the comments are about churches and other places where there is a keynote speaker.

    No really we mean everyone.

It used to be most public transit I used until the fucking fools who endlessly blast millisecond Tik Tok videos came along. Every bus now requires a guillotine.

Libraries are more than quiet places. A library is where people are told “here’s something to do. Now stfu”

It’s what’s called a third space, and those have been dwindling. Thankfully there is a movement to make walkable neighborhoods and increase park area, but generations have grown up with no where to go for free to socialize, and it shows, half of us are feral and a third don’t know when to shut the fuck up and move along. Or just sit and enjoy being alive around other people. That is now a cultural issue caused by greed, corps and the wealthy needed never ending record profits and they made us reliant on cars, and made all entertainment cost something. It’s time to develop a different culture that acknowledges we need free socialization for the good of everyone. Some peaceful, some sporty, some nerdy, some crafty… all kinds, because a healthy society takes all kinds supporting each other.

I agree but has that person gone to library lately? Growing up, they were quiet places; now even the librarians talk loudly and don’t stop others from talking loudly, at least in NJ. :(

That’s funny, because people aren’t quiet in libraries anymore. They’re just normal spaces, now. No quieter than a bookstore.

My library has a quiet floor, but the rest are good places for students to get together to study and do group projects.

There’s also study rooms you can borrow if you need a door between you and the world.

Yeah ours has signs saying you dont need to be quiet. It’s just a public space. That said, the layout creates places which are naturally quieter.

We need ultralibraries for the peeps sensitive to auditory stimulus.

I ended up paying to go to a private library a while back and it was blissfully quiet. Wasn’t much either, like $10/month.

Seriously, we need regular, organized secular congregations where elected community leaders lead discussions on building stronger communities and read aloud from books about building stronger communities. A library would make a good venue.

MfW is not, it is mostly silent. I get a huge benefit from meditation, I learned.

MfB which is how to run things is a different experience. They don’t go by consensus, they seek unity. That takes a long time.

Just left a concert. There was a small group of people yelling to each other to talk over the music.
I was not happy about it. They finally STFU after a few minutes, tho.
